Julia (juliakc) | 13 comments I have been obsessed with books since I was little, but after a huge reading slump, the book that got me back in was We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson
It is about a young woman named Mary Katherine who lives in a large & secluded house with her older sister, Constance, who she loves more than anything, and her disabled uncle Julian. The three are the survivors of a murder which killed the rest of their family during a dinner six years ago. Constance was tried but not convicted. Mary is extremely superstitious and when her cousin Charles comes to stay with them, it exemplifies that.
You guys the book is beautifully written and is sort of a psychological horror or thriller. It has themes of witchcraft which is cool & takes place in New England in the 40s. Mary is also the epitome of an unreliable narrator.
It’s probably the best book I’ve ever read pleaseee read it pookies
