Ty Carlson | 2 comments Are you a binding breaker or do you keep them in tact at all costs? I REFUSE to break the binding, often making my neck uncomfortable trying to read the pages. But I know many readers don't care. So I'm curious your opinion!

laurenz (readwzy) | 18 comments I am not one of those people who love to stretch the spine all the way back, but I do stretch out my books evenly so that it's easier to read, but it won't be ruined. I just split the book from the outside to the inside until the book is opened in half perfectly and just warms up the book for reading!

ellie | 14 comments Absolutely not! All of my books look very clean and new, even though some have been read many times!

Joan M | 6 comments That is a Hard No. I have Kindle copies and Hard copies of books. I'll sit here and recommend all the books that I love and Disliked, tell everyone to get a copy or read it on kindle. But you won't see me lending out a neat, clean, hard copy LOL

Emma | 2 comments Christine wrote: "Could somebody please explain to me WHY it makes it easier to read a paperback if the binding is broken?"

My personal experience is that paperbacks are bound in a way that can cut off or impede reading the ending of lines on the left page and the beginning on the right from the binding is so tight in a new book. For me, the best way to solve the problem is to crack the spine and make it so you can read the book flat. It also makes it easier to hold them open and read with one hand, a practice I am fond of because I have a toddler so one hand is always full with toddler-related nonsense.

Some people think the book wont last as long if the binding is broken but in my experience as long as you don't bend the cover all the way back, and you don't over-flex the spine repeatedly, they last just as long. I DO NOT recommend this practice for hardcover books, however.

Malissa (malissa1578) | 163 comments If it's your book, by all means do your thing, if it is not then absolutely not. I break some bindings on books I know that are mine for the rest of my life, those are mainly diy, crafting, herbal, witchy knowledge books. Regular books or collectibles I do not.

Lilah NAH I looked back to the books I used to read when I was REALLY little and OMG the spine was cracked, there were dog ear marks in the pages, THERE WAS A COVER MISSING OFF A FEW OF THEM but now that I’m older my books always look brand new and I would rather just close the book then dog ear it.

CybercrrEDU | 34 comments I can't even. I try to keep my books nice. I'm one of those a-holes ig reels make fun of. Ya know the kind that cleans the used book gently. lol I don't care if it's a used book and that way. Fine, but I like them breaking in naturally. Especially since I'm not above multiple readings.

message 25: by Key (new)

Key (keyeron) | 6 comments I can't break the binding. It's literally hard for me trying not to cry while actually attempting to break the binding. I love my books as it is.
