Dana | 148 comments Hey, all! I've started listening to the audio version of The Paleblood Hunt, a 100+ page lore document about Bloodborne written up by a guy from Reddit/YouTube. I was wondering if it was on GR and sure enough, I found it, yet a) I was unsure if it was a valid record and b) found that said record was a mess. I'm still not sure after perusing the librarian manual one more time, so I figured I'd ask for input here! The issues I found are:

1) The Paleblood Hunt has only been published as a public Google Doc afaik. I'd imagine that counts as "published" (since ultimately it's no different from Wattpad) but to be sure: is it a valid record?

2) I found another entry for the book and originally wanted to combine the editions, but then saw that the second record (found here: The Paleblood Hunt) is set to Paperback, with its description saying "I will make one copy only of this book". Sounds to me like someone printed the Google Doc for themselves, though there is an entry on Amazon for that exact copy: https://www.amazon.com/Paleblood-Hunt.... I personally would just set it to Deleted, but again wanted to ask if that is the right move since I'm unsure because of the Amazon record.

I already cleaned up the author name mess but it would be great if some fellow librarians could help regarding my other issues. Thank you so much!

Sandra | 31413 comments I've no idea about the google doc, whether valid or invalid.

But as the paperback edition is on Amazon, with valid asin & isbn, you can't delete it. It Is Valid.

According to the Librarian Manual it's a non-book item: "File hosted on a personal file sharing service (even if the content would otherwise qualify as a book)". Sort of a shame since it has 550+ ratings.

2) IMO this is a valid edition, even if it's rare and out-of-print. It should be combined with the other editions.

3) Noticed there is also an audiobook edition, but it appears to be a Youtube video which is also invalid according to GR policy.

Thanks for responding!

1) Yeah, I was confused about that since I wasn't sure if Google Docs is a "personal file sharing service" necessarily? I mean, it probably is, but I was wondering if it meant books that are only available when given a link rather than out in the open and easily searchable via Google. I wasn't exactly sure about what was the intention of that specific rule, if that makes sense?

2) I figured that the Amazon entry made it legit, even though it fairly clearly is a one-off personal printing of a publicly available doc.

3) The audiobook is available as a podcast on Spotify. The manual states that "Podcasts that are a reading/narration of a book's content" are valid, so if one of the other two entries is valid, I'd think the audiobook should be too, right?

Thanks for your response! I think you're right, but it FEELS wrong haha
I definitely won't delete it without a superlibrarian ruling it should be deleted. And the Amazon record definitely made me think it shouldn't (hence the post), I was just unsure because it seemingly has been printed privately for personal use - how it made its way on Amazon is truly a good question.

Thanks for your help, you two! I think I just need an official ruling of what to do exactly. I'd rather wait a while before touching the records and making a mess.

gem | 2620 comments 3) Good to know the podcast exists. In that case I'd say it's valid. :)

You can put Attn: Jaclyn into the thread title for quicker staff attention and response.

Hello! Unfortunately a book available only on Google docs is not valid for inclusion on Goodreads.

I agree that the Amazon entry makes the book entry legit, and the podcast is valid. 😊
