Have you ever thought you saw something that couldn’t possibly be there or heard a voice coming from a room that turns out to be empty?
Everyone has, it’s just trick our brains play on us when it doesn’t know how to make sense of the information it’s receiving. There is no such thing as ghosts and the fairies currently flitting in and out of the shadows are nothing more than a trick of the light. But what if that isn’t true. What happens when the rational runs up against the completely irrational? How far would you go to deny what was right in front of your face?
Losing it grew out of these questions and a truly astonishing case of sleep deprivation, resulting from a 3 day train journey across India in what can only be described as cattle class. The fact that my first attempt at writing a full-length novel came about this way may explain many things about both myself and the book. Writing was a fun way to kill time on what was basically a 2 year long road trip and it turned into a minor addiction, even though now that I’m back in the real world most of my time is spent writing dry research papers on brain disorders and the evils of chronic stress.
The question is now, what do I do next? Who knew that writing the book was the easy part? Well apart from everyone here in this little part of the Goodreads universe. How do you get people to give you their opinion about your work so you can stop feeling quite so paranoid and if you’re really, really lucky get some justification for your personal opinion that your book isn’t half as bad as some of that rubbish Amazon is always recommending you should read?
Honestly I have no idea how to answer any of those questions so I’d be very grateful to hear from anyone who does.
