Sadness for poor KoA, the survival of that son would have changed history.

Happy New Year everybody!

I agree with you Lyn, I've been wondering the same thing. How did she manage to get away with her head still attached to her body?

I suspect that letting Henry annul the marriage had a lot to do with it. After that, she was officially "the King's Sister," danced at his wedding to Catherine Howard, and so forth. I think she outlived all the other wives.

message 97: by Heather (new)

Heather Seale (historygirl79) | 72 comments I'm on Central time, but I did do it a few hours early. I think it was around 10:30 p.m.....lol.

Lyn is right about Anne of Cleves. Because she agreed to the annulment Henry was very kind to her. He gave her a castle and a nice yearly income and she was given the title of "The Kings Sister".

She must have been much smarter than people gave her credit for. I believe that she was looked at as a barbarian, yet she was savvy enough to know when to let things be.

The '70 BBC version of Henry VIII and His Six Wives portrayed her as very smart and politically savvy.
