Colter Shaw makes his living by locating missing people and collecting the rewards for finding them. This book came to my attention because of the new television show based on the book. I like the show, and the book was good too.
In the book, there is a serial kidnapper who is following the levels of a video game. He places his victims in abandoned places that are similar to the levels of the Whispering man video game. Colter successfully finds and rescues the first victim, but the local police take credit. By the third victim, the police are working with him to solve the crimes and rescue the victims.
The other story in the book is the mystery of his father's death. The book goes back and forth between Colter's youth and the current events. At first I thought this part of the story was just background, but it turns out to be much more than that by the end.
The book is a thriller that will keep you guessing. I thought I had it figured out at one point, but the plot took an unexpected turn. Which just made it that much more interesting.
