No, I didn't do a review. I did enjoy the book. Its worth reading. She was a very interesting woman! Nancy Goldstone is easy to read; I love her attention to detail.

I'm doing the reading royality challenge, Joan of Arc, and Borgias-among the other book groups! buzzing thru for knowledge, etc.; I don't always stop to comment.

Thank you again for your excellent review!

After finishing The Maid and the Queen: The Secret History of Joan of Arc, I see what you mean about Joan not getting much attention. I enjoyed learning about Yolande. I have seen her named dropped in other royal books-but rarely does anyone go into details!

Orsolya (orsolya_d) | 42 comments I'll definitely have to read it soon. It is always so diffcult to choose the next book to read! I am like a child in a candy store!

I didn't know much about Yolande, either. I think if nothing else, Goldstone opens up the door for further research which is always a positive thing.

For some reason, I've never been interested in the Borgias. I guess I just don't personally "click" with the family.

I'm a bookaholic, too. I find an author I like and have to read everything they've ever written!!! I'm in several groups at the moment and all my book buddies have such excellent taste-I get side-tracked so easily with their recommendation (as well as goodreads). I think I could spend the rest of my life lost in a book!

I saw the first season DVD on the Borgias-I found several of the minor characters interesting and wanted to know more about them and the history of Italy.

Recently, I've become interested in Indian (Mughals princesses). I'm reading Shadow Princess: A Novel at the moment. Its about the Emperor Shah Jahan's oldest daughter Princess Jahanara. The time period covers the death of her mother and the construction of the "Luminous Tomb" her father builds in honor of his wife. The tomb comes to be called the Taj Mahal. And now I'm addicted to Indu Sundaresan-I won't be satisfied until I've read the other books in the series-The Twentieth Wife &The Feast of Roses.

What's your favorite family?

Orsolya (orsolya_d) | 42 comments Oh wow... I didn't know that about the Taj Mahal! I admit that I don't know an overwhelming amount on Indian culture.

I am a Plantagenet, Tudor, and Stuart buff. :) But I dabble in some other areas.

Orsolya (orsolya_d) | 42 comments I'm 100% Hungarian though so I wish there was some more Hungarian books out there (regarding past royalty not the Holocaust).

I would love to read those!

Blood Bone and Muscle | 2 comments Oh oh! I wrote a poem about her!

But it is long and French...

If you check out my shelf "My People: Hungarians" then you can browse some Hungarian books. Some are hisortical fiction. Sadly, they aren't about royal families but you still may see something that sparks your attention...

Blood Bone and Muscle | 2 comments Voici le poem. It is not perfect. :

Une femme boueuse, modeste cerf, sans valeur
Me fortifie disparate du vin, tonique
