Christine Mathieu | 948 comments No, not at all. I still manage to read 4 or 5 books with more than 600 pages per month.

Henna_UwU | 99 comments Personally, length only bothers me when it's unjustified.

For example, if a book is really long and feels like the writer unnecessarily stretched it out, I don't like it. Similarly, if a book should have been longer but wasn't, I dislike that, too. A good example of the latter is All American Boys, which just arbitrarily ended before anything was resolved. I didn't even like the book overall, but I would have appreciated an actual conclusion to anything.

London | 12 comments It does. Everything over 300-400 is no no for me. (unless is a recommendation from trustworthy people)

message 54: by Mostly (new)

Mostly Books | 70 comments Yes it does if the book is more than 500 and above pages... Ughhhh

message 55: by Chris (new)

Chris St Laurent | 120 comments Not at all, sometimes I don’t want it end.

message 56: by Maia (new)

Maia Matson (maiamatson) | 77 comments yes, if it's too short and doesn't give enough of an explanation or if it's too long and repeats itself unnecessarily. I enjoy my books to be well written, and I think the length of the story is part of the editing process.

message 57: by Destiny (new)

Destiny Vasquez | 10 comments sometimes just knowing how long it is makes me less excited to finish, but if i take my time to enjoy the story, I tend to not care

message 58: by Christine (new)

Christine Mathieu | 948 comments I am often thankful for repetitions, especially in very long books with 600+ pages, because the older you get, the harder it is to memorize all the names. So if the author writes twice or three times that Brian is the son of the protagonist's best friend, I don't consider this a repetition.

I tend to create bookmarks with all the names mentioned in the novel and write down how they are related to each other.

Now at my age I prefer books about a handful of people (or wilderness books, autobiographies).

Christine Mathieu | 948 comments Kira wrote: "As someone with some experience editing, I tend to notice unnecessary passages, especially in very long books. Excessive description, exposition, repetition, author intrusion with sermons or opinio..."

I stop a book when it's boring. That's why I've read more than 5.000 books in my life time (and over the past 20+ years I've reread hundreds of my own books due to the fact that neither American nor German publishers publish interesting novels anymore, it's all SciFi, fantasy or Dystopian).

message 60: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 26 comments Depends. And long chapters are a big NOPE.

message 61: by Christine (new)

Christine Mathieu | 948 comments I hate one page chapters - such a waste of paper. Chapters with 10 to 20 pages are ideal for me. I can read it, before I fall asleep.

ᴍᴀ́ʀᴄɪᴀ ฅ՞•ﻌ•՞ฅ (missrodrigues2000) Sometimes, I want to read bigger books (atleast 350-400) but I normally chose books that I have interest me, and this year its alot of short books...
I dont like when the year ends and My average number of pages is less than 300.

message 63: by Lilah (new)

Lilah I’ve been trying to read “A Day of Fallen Night” and the writing is kind of small plus the book is huge. I usually am only able to read a couple pages a week and then it puts me in a slump. So I guess the answer is yes XD

message 64: by Richaar (new)

Richaar | 133 comments It determines when I pick up the book.

message 65: by Marrico (new)

Marrico Gordon | 12 comments No.

message 66: by ali (new)

ali | 76 comments it definitely does. sometimes i don't want to read more than a 300 paged book, and sometimes i want to read a 6 book long seires with all of the books being over 400 pages.

message 67: by Anthony (new)

Anthony Brooks (asbrooks88) I read some great books that were 600+ pages, and the flowed perfectly!

message 68: by Anthony (new)

Anthony Brooks (asbrooks88) My biggest issue is, A 600+ page book that is 5 chapters. LOL

message 69: by Lo (new)

Lo Normirzaeva | 4 comments I read Anna Karenina in under 2 weeks, try to focus on the plot more. If the book is actually good then even 900 pages will not be enough.

message 70: by Oscar (new)

Oscar | 6 comments no

message 71: by Insane Backlog (new)

Insane Backlog (Now excuse me while I add more) | 5 comments No, but with the caveat that its has to earn it length. I will read a 1000+ page book that needs that length to tell its story to completion, and makes it engaging along the way (builds up character narratives and arcs) and grows and changes them. Where one scene leads to the next like dominos falling. But what I don't like is a book of that size where they are just stringing along random scenes with no correlation to anything to pad the pages.

message 72: by STish (new)

STish (entrancingnightshade) | 18 comments No. If anything it's a challenge!

message 73: by Anita (new)

Anita Hickman (anitahickman8) | 35 comments depending how the book is reading..

message 74: by Ineffable7980x (new)

Ineffable7980x | 47 comments I don't mind long books. I've read some fantasy chunkers that are 1200+ pages. I was not intimidated, but I also don't want to be reading a book that long all the time. I prefer 500 pages or under.

message 75: by rowan (new)

rowan | 88 comments yes, definitely. but it depends on what kind of book it is. cant be out here reading 700 pages of some romcom lol

message 76: by Austin (Weird) (new)

Austin (Weird) (weirdwashere1) No!

message 77: by Mary ♥ (new)

Mary ♥ | 44 comments The only time it does is when the book is short and written well, then I’m just greedy for more.

message 78: by Annie (new)

Annie Rose | 54 comments as long as it is worth that amount of pages, if it’s dragged on more than it needs to be then i don’t like it

message 79: by sarah (new)

sarah | 288 comments Yes. I look at it and think. hmmmm do I have time and energy to start and finish this. I Dont want to start it if I'm thinking I don't habe the tome for a bog book. I will look at the reviews and decide what to do then.

message 80: by Linda (new)

Linda Sadler | 5 comments Depends on the book. I just checked out The Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne from the library. That fat book is sitting on my dresser just looking at me

message 81: by Abi (new)

Abi | 104 comments nope

message 82: by Kayleigh (new)

Kayleigh | 4 comments I don't have a lot of time to actually read, busy working mom, so I listen to audio books ALL THE TIME. For me, I prefer longer books and series

message 83: by Maggie (new)

Maggie (harrypotter8) | 30 comments The length of the book doesn't bother me at all.

message 84: by Pielgrzym (new)

Pielgrzym Ołówkowy | 6 comments nuh uh

message 85: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Aguilar (toriasha90) | 1 comments Depends on the book. I’ve read books with over 900 pages and never got bored.

message 86: by Alisha (new)

Alisha Goldstein | 50 comments So the series I'm reading I definitely put off because it's over 500 each and multiple books. Now that I'm reading it I regret putting it off because damn its so good I'm going through the books in 1 or 2 days despite it being 600+ pages long.

message 87: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 15 comments Only when the book runs on and on with repetitious dialogue (I'm looking at my current K. Ashley read), or filler descriptions, even unnecessary characters - then I mind.

message 88: by becs (new)

becs | 178 comments it can definitely be more discouraging if a book is longer

message 89: by Pisces51 (new)

Pisces51 | 3 comments Yes. I either unconsciously or okay maybe consciously shy away from really long books, defined as 700 pages or more. My reading time is limited to a few hours a night. Earlier in my life of more solitary days and nights I would not have even looked at the length of the book if my curiosity and interest were piqued.

message 90: by Savannah (new)

Savannah C (savac101) | 31 comments no, as long as it is a good story and keeps my interest.

message 91: by Mai (new)

Mai Jimenez (maijf) | 16 comments Normally no, but the length of the chapter does. I hate long chapters , makes the book feel eternal.

Bellaaa (jeremiah's version!) Yes but if I read it a bit and I like it, I know I will finish the really long books in like two days

message 93: by Kristeen_ (new)

Kristeen_ | 17 comments not at all! I always prefer looonnngg books!!

message 94: by Noa (semi ia) (new)

Noa (semi ia) ˚୨୧ | 18 comments no way

message 95: by Ju (new)

Ju | 3 comments I actually like it that different books have different lengths.
It says a lot about the topic, the author, and basically everything.

message 96: by Kaia (new)

Kaia Wolf | 15 comments The only time the length of a book bothers me is when it interferes with the storytelling. Some books’ lengths don’t justify the length, whereas some books could use some additional length to explain things a bit better :) It’s also nice to sometimes have light, quick reads, opposed to thicc books that are time sinks :)

message 97: by Lady Grace (new)

Lady Grace | 82 comments no, but the length of the chapters do

message 98: by Dave (new)

Dave | 41 comments Not at all
