Honestly, I hesitated to start reading this novel. It was so widely praised that I dreaded being disappointed in it. And I'm so relieved that it is the other way around.

This one is definitely not melodramatic, IMHO. And the video game aspect isn't such a major plot part as it is in Ready Player One.
I liked Ready Player One very much, as well as Tomorrow x3. So I think you may enjoy it too, Robin.

The characters felt incredibly authentic, even if I didn't always agree with their actions. Sadie, in particular, got under my skin with her self-centred attitude and disregard for others' feelings.
The exploration of video games as a storytelling medium was fascinating, even for someone like me who isn't a gamer. I gained a newfound appreciation for the artistry behind game development.
Despite some heartbreaking moments, the novel never felt overly dramatic. In fact, there were times when I felt certain events could have been given more weight, (view spoiler)[such as Sam's loss of his leg (hide spoiler)]. Overall, reading this book was like stepping into another world, and I enjoyed every moment of it.
