This spring we are reading Myrna Loy: Being and Becoming, an autobiography written with James Kotsilibas-Davis.

Which of Myrna Loy's films is your favorite? Why?

Loy was often teamed with William Powell. Which of their movies do you like best?

If you could sit down with Loy and ask her one question, what would it be?

I just completed Myrna Loy: Being and Becoming. My review is posted at https://www.goodreads.com/review/show....

Which of Myrna Loy's films is your favorite? Why?

It’s probably Libeled Lady, mostly because of the whole cast—Myrna Loy, Jean Harlow, William Powell, Spencer Tracy, and Walter Connolly (one of my favorite character actors from 1930s).

Loy was often teamed with William Powell. Which of their movies do you like best?

Besides Libeled Lady, my favorites are the first five Thin Man movies, especially the first and the fifth (The Thin Man Goes Home). The first one set the tone and theme for the whole series, and the payoff scene when Nick Charles names the villain is the best and funniest of those in all the series.

The Thin Man Goes Home is sometimes considered one of the weaker of the series. I like it, though, because it portrays Nick and Nora as a maturing couple with a son who is growing up, but they are still playful with each other, and maintain the spark they had in the original movie. Nora is also featured a bit more in this one. Her scenes are interesting and have some laugh-out-loud lines.

If you could sit down with Loy and ask her one question, what would it be?

According to her autobiography, Loy seemed to thrive in her stage roles in the national touring companies during the latter part of her career. She didn’t exhibit the confidence to perform well on the stage earlier, and worked films only. I would be curious to know if, looking back, there were roles she wished she could have played on Broadway during her early career.

I'm sorry I've been so busy getting ready for the Columbus Moving Picture Show that I've neglected getting a group watch together this season. Which Myrna Loy would you like to watch and discuss?

I think she said she enjoyed working with William Powell the best, and it seemed to show. I'd suggest one of those, such as The Thin Man.
