Richard (mrredwood) | 41 comments I was trying to find an ebook of this huge tome, and eventually discovered none seems to exist.

There are nine copies of this listed by type as "Kindle"; eight of them have ASINs. I checked three or four, and they go to non-book pages at Amazon. Google Books also appears to indicate no ebook exists.

Sad; now I have to decide whether I really want to carry a 3½ pound book around with me for long enough to read all 1246 pages (not a fan of paperbacks).

Oh, but meanwhile, can someone with the time to nerd out check my accuracy and cleanly removing these volumes?

Thank you!

Drace (dracenines) | 7540 comments Not a Goodreads librarian, so I can't help with cleanup, but a quick look at the official publisher's website confirms there's no ebook version available. There's a digital audiobook available, but no official digital text version.

If you look at the edit history for the mystery Kindle editions, it seems like they were all randomly created by the Goodreads bot. My hypothesis is that since no ebook edition of The Power Broker seems to have ever existed, it picked up secondhand booksellers on Amazon, used the ASINs associated with their secondhand copies, and labeled them as Kindle editions for god knows what reason.

If I were a librarian I'd argue that the fact that an ebook edition has never existed for this book is enough justification to either mark them all as invalid or merge them with the hardcover, but again, I'm not a Goodreads librarian, so probably take that opinion with a grain of salt.

EDIT: Found the following article as well: https://www.curbed.com/2021/07/power-...

It's from 2021 and it details why there isn't an ebook of TPB and an incident where a bootleg version created by some kind of text scanner/digitizer was uploaded to Amazon. I'm not sure how frequent of an occurrence this is, but these bootleg copies could also be part of why there are Kindle editions listed on GR.
