30.7 TessaVanessa’s Task: The Price is Right

The Price is Right is one of the most loved game shows on American television. Contestants compete by guessing the prices of merchandise to win cash and prizes. It is the first game show I remember watching.

Read two books, from two different options.
Required: State the options.

Option 1: COME ON DOWN: The show started with the host choosing a contestant from the studio audience by calling out the words: Come on down, you’re the next contestant on the Price is Right. Read a book with a word of five letters or more that can be made from COME ON DOWN, YOU’RE THE NEXT CONTESTANT. Letters may only be used as often as they appear.

Required: State the word.

Option 2: PRICING GAMES: There were many games played on the Price is Right before a contestant made it to the final showcase. A few of the games I remember are Plinko, Grocery Game, Cliff Hangers, Safe Crackers, Dice Game, Bonkers, and Bullseye. Read a book with a title, subtitle and/or author that includes all the letters in one of these games.

Required: State the game you are using.

Option 3: SHOWCASE SHOWDOWN The show runs for 60 minutes. The 3 contestants from the first half will have a chance at The Big Wheel as well as the 3 from the second half. The highest number from each set advances to the showcase showdown. The remaining 2 contestants get to bid on a showcase of items ranging from vacations, cars, boats and other big ticket items. The one closest to the actual cost wins. Go to https://spinthewheel.app/the-price-is... and spin the wheel. Read a book that includes the number(s) you spun in the page count . The numbers can be in any order.

Required: State the number you spun.

Option 4: From 1979 until his last appearance in 2007, Bob Barker would end each episode with the following words: “Bob Barker, to remind you, help to control the pet population - have your pets spayed or neutered. Goodbye everybody!” - a plea that was continued by the man who succeeded him in the role, Drew Carey. Read a book with a domestic dog or cat on the cover. It can be a live animal or a drawing as long as you can tell it is a cat or dog.

Required: Post the cover.

Yes!

Candace Woods | 11 comments For option 2, we have to use all the letters in one of the games or we just have to be able to find a title or author using one game, but not necessarily using all the letters? Sorry I’m confused.

Candace Woods | 11 comments I also don’t understand what I need to do for option 3. I’m so sorry

For Option 2 you need to choose one of the games and find a book that includes all of the letters in the name of the game. You can use the title, subtitle and author's name.

Example: Hitler's Father: Hidden Letters – Why the Son Became a Dictator by Roman Sandgruber

The letters in the game Bullseye can be found in the title, subtitle and author.

For option 3 you spin the wheel and then record what number you got.

For example if you got a 35 then you need to read a book that has a 3 and a 5 in the page count in any order.

This book would work as well.

Susan A | 1661 comments Option 2: PRICING GAMES:

The Chef, the Wolf, and their Platypus Omega

this has all of the letters for CLiff Hangers in the title -- author letters not needed, but it has 2 authors. I don't see anything about multiple author books, but it does say author not author(s).

Is it allowed?

Yes, this works.

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 941 comments So, I spun a 100. Does that mean I have to have one 1 and 2 0s in the page count. So I could be

1001
1010
1100

Julia (julia103) | 2717 comments Option 4 says "Read a book with a domestic dog or cat on the cover." Is it ok to have both a cat and dog?

The Sign of Four Spirits (Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mystery #9) by Vicki Delany
(Cat is in the middle with a paw on the book. Two dogs are on the right, under the window.)

♞ Pat Gent | 786 comments Since the task doesn't specifically rule out "children's", can I use this book for option 4?

The Last Black Cat by Eugene Trivizas The Last Black Cat by Eugene Trivizas
IL: UY - BL: 5.3 - AR Pts: 8.0

c) Books that have an IL designation of MG+ or UG may be used with no restrictions (other than general SRC and specific task requirements). The AR BookFinder UK equivalent for UG is UY. However, you must state the IL designation when you post the book.
