30.4 - Cat's Task: Books of Oceania

We will be reading books associated with the quasi-continent Oceania, and using the information on this link for reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...

Pick an option.
Required: state the option.

Option 1: Two Book Option

Book 1: Read a book that is set (at least 70%) in one or more countries in Oceania, or is about one or more countries in Oceania (if Non-Fiction).
Required: state the country(/ies), and provide supporting evidence if it's not obvious from the GR metadata or blurb.

Book 2: Read a book that is written by an author born in a country in Oceania. Multiple authors are allowed, provided that ALL are born within Oceania. The author(s) need not be from the country used for book 1.
Required: provide a link to prove place of birth if it's not obvious from the GR metadata.

Option 2: One Book Option
Read one book of at least 500 pages that fits both criteria of Option 1.

for option 1 - Sea People: The Puzzle of Polynesia - potentially looks like it works since tis focused on an area within Oceania - thoughts?

Jen K | 985 comments For Book 2, would a book work if there are 2 authors and both were born in Australia?

Example: Gemina

message 8: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Would Just This Once work? The character is spending 3 weeks in New Zealand.

Many thanks

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3675 comments Morning, Cat.

I just wondered. Is the series name enough to establish location for book 1? I was wondering about Murder at Turtle Cove, which is set on Oahu, and is part of the "Sand and Sea Hawaiian mysteries" series (https://www.goodreads.com/series/1870...), but doesn't specify the location anywhere else.

Thanks.

I'll update the text to include "about" - to cover non-fiction like this

If the book is 70%+ set in NZ then why wouldn't it work?

Yes, I'll ask for that update too - ALL authors must be born in a country in Oceania

Julia (julia103) | 2717 comments I'm wondering if anyone has read Morgan's Run and can say if it is at least 70% in Australia?

message 17: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 1609 comments I plan to read Everyone on This Train Is a Suspect by Benjamin Stevenson. I can use it for Book 1 but I have something for that. I think it should work for Book 2. Oddly, this author has no birth date or location on GR, Wikipedia, or anyplace I can find. Does anyone know any info on him or where to find it?
