This is an amazing site that I have known and consulted very often for a few years now, I recommend it to everyone!
Well done Peggy, it never occurred to me to share it, since Goodreads already offers so many lists, but you did a great thing sharing it with everyone :-)

Thanks; Tiziana! The internet has given us readers a wealth of choices to find books. Between Libby, Hoopla, Audio, Gooreads, etc; I have more books on my TBR list then I'll be able to realisticly read in the next 20 years!

Thanks for reminding me of this list! I am needing to compile a list of pre-20th century historical fiction set in France for a presentation I am giving at the Historical Novel Society 2024 conference, and this will make it easier to find the older books that don't come up on Amazon!

Jules; Good luck as I think some are out of print.
They are roughly covering the time from 1848 (German revolution) until today, focussing mainly on Germany, but there's also bits on Russia (Russian revolution, Soviet Union).
I'm a bit lost as to how I could search for suitable books as even if I find books set in the right time/place, I wouldn't know how much background the author smuggles into the book.
Can anyone either help me how to find books or has maybe already recommendations?
