Matt Benedict | 2 comments Situation: I remembered a book I liked in Junior High, and I want to read it again just to re-experience it. I can't remember much about it for the life of me but I'll try to give some details below. I looked through some of the more popular sci fi books, but nothing rang a bell, as I'm guessing it wasn't so popular? I believe it was a male author, but I can't be certain, so that may not help! Agh.

When I read it:
I read it in Junior High, which was 2002-ish. I was about 13.

What reading level it is aimed at:
I got it in my junior high's library, so I'm guessing young adults.

What the story is about:
I only remember very vague details. If I had to guess a title it would be something like "The ______ War", but i can't remember what that word would be or if it's even correct. The story was centered around a young male and I feel like his name was connor/korvin or something of that nature. I feel like it was a dystopian type setting because he had to participate in futuristic, possibly cyber battles that he didn't want to, wasn't a lot of human interaction, seemed post-appocalyptic or some kind of controlled society. I remember him being locked in a small dorm or room with his living supplies provided for him. I think he had to consult a panel/robot/cyborg friend about when the battles were coming up. When he went to "battle" I remember whatever he did, it seemed like a simulation of sorts, it was VERY centered on pin point accuracy, and I'm talking to the fraction of a millimeter, I remember the author emphasizing this.(probably my best clue) I'm talking like moving his hands the length of a fiber, and the protagonist was very good at this simulation and had insane control over his motor reflexes. I feel like the main character was trying to save someone, he had a friend that I feel like they were maybe "free'd" in the end of the book. And also, I remember him wandering around a slums area at some point.

What format is: Library book.

I'm sorry for the vague details, it's a really foggy memory but I thought this was worth a shot! Thanks so much!

Abby | 215 comments Sorry, this is probably a dumb suggestion since you checked through the popular sci-fi books, but Ender's Game?
I know his name's not Connor, but a lot of the other stuff sounds similar. Ender's a genius...
Anyway, good luck finding your book.

Matt Benedict | 2 comments You know what, I had looked at that book before, and I didn't think it was it at first glance. I then read a summary, and I'm almost certain it was now.

I think i might have been mixing a few book memories together from that time.

Anyways, I'm going to give it a read! I'm nearly positive now, thanks!

Adrienne Harris | 6 comments this actually sounds a little more like Enders Shadow. Especially the part about wandering around the slums. Either they are both awesome books

Abby | 215 comments Good point, Adrienne. Matt, I've only read the first one, but there are quite a few books about Ender, so if it's not Ender's Game, try some other Ender books.
Ender's Shadow for the link to Adrienne's suggestion.

Matt, did you find your book? If so, what's the title and author?

No response from Matt. Sounds like this could be either 'Ender's Game' or 'Ender's Shadow.' Shall we move to Solved?
