That's because everyone, especially possibly me, is using a lot of tongue n cheek and pretending to believe in ideas like dinos being around in Noah's ark and things like this.

99% of this thread is satire, Krishna.
This group needed a laugh :)

Curvy dino females being cast by Harry Whitewolf (he's even built a dino "casting couch"), Laureen is working on ordering costumes and David Hasslehoff will soon be approached to play the lead of the Dino Hunter. Plus you and Fay will be Dino Whisperers - you two will try to save the last dinos from extinction and will attempt to convince ETs to abduct the last few dinos and take them to another planet where they can live peacefully.

message 356: by Harry (new)

Harry Whitewolf | 1745 comments I'm casting curvy female dinosaurs! Man, I did not want that picture in my head (the one of the diplodocus in a bikini).

James Morcan | 11380 comments Harry wrote: "What Fay doesn't realise is she's the greatest satirist of all! ;)"

Aye, Fay got so into her satirical character of Biblical literalist/Fundamentalist that she forgot it was only a role she was playing for a laugh ;)

And maybe that's the entire truth of all of our lives. We are just playing roles, but have forgotten. "The whole world is just a stage and all the men and women are merely players," said Shakespeare - or something along those lines.

See? this dino thread is now moving in to "What's the meaning of life" type discussion...

On a separate matter, I wonder why children nearly always love dinos? Anyone think they know why?

I wonder if they'll be able to resurrect the dinos one day like Jurassic Park?

Laureen (laureenandersonswfcomau) | 478 comments Krishna, that is a wonderful thing to believe in the spirit of St Nicholas. Funny, I never believed it to be a good thing to lie to my children about anything. Even when one of them at 4yrs old asked me the question about where babies come from, I told the truth in the best possible language that a 4yr old could understand.

However, I just couldn't tell them that St Nicholas was fictional. My three little guys all loved Christmas so much with all the pomp and ceremony. Why destroy a childhood dream. I love the idea of giving presents. Isn't it said it is better to give than receive? That is so true. We all get a thrill out of Xmas just yo see the faces of children.

James Morcan | 11380 comments On a separate unrelated topic (nothing in this discussion thread relates anyway), does anyone know if at the time of Christ did they know the world was round? Or did they think it was a flat earth?

message 372: by Laureen (new)

Laureen (laureenandersonswfcomau) | 478 comments Did they ever see the ocean? The Biblical characters all lived away from the ocean so I believe they thought the Earth was flat.

Since I was born practically. I've been taught this stuff my whole life and have thought for myself that this was what I wanted to believe in. I know that you think that since I grew up believing this stuff it makes me even more stubborn to other non-Biblical beliefs, and, I mean it kind of does. But I truly know in my heart that what I believe in is true and nothing can ever sway me.

Nessie is a myth

message 380: by Laureen (new)

Laureen (laureenandersonswfcomau) | 478 comments I have never been to Loch Ness but the pictures of it always seem to have this mist hanging over it, very creepy like. I suspect it would be easy to imagine seeing something strange out there, in the mist.

There has never been any proof, however, that there is a prehistoric animal living in the depths of Loch Ness. Only supposed sightings. Great for story-telling though. However, I believe it has encouraged a lot of tourism which would be great for the local economy.

message 381: by Faith (new)

Faith (faymorrow) | 309 comments I think there could be a Loch ness monster... but it's more likely that it's a myth. The tourism for that place is great but I think that there have been frauds also for trying to make it seem as if the monster actually was alive when really it was just an illusion. It's a very cool story though. If it was a real creature then I wouldn't doubt it if it was some kind of dinosaur. :) Haha.

James Morcan | 11380 comments EdWrite wrote: "I'm on dinosaurs. Why can't they be capable of swimming?"

Well I had previously assumed they could swim, but I was outnumbered in this thread on the theory of swimming dinos as the rest came up with the highly scientific analysis that "dinos are too heavy to float on or in water"...

But how do these brilliant scientific minds explain Loch Ness??

:)

I just can't understand why the world is so populated with all colors of people when we all began with Adam & Eve, literally some would say!!! These two are portrayed as white when I believe the statistics say Caucasian people are in the minority.

Forget about dinosaurs we are, literally, all related? That's kind of incestuous is it not? Is this another medical fraud when we are told that our DNA is specific to our family bloodline?

I suspect Adam & Eve are portrayed as Caucasian for the same reason Jesus is: European culture was the main subscriber to Christianity and people couldn't easily imagine other races all those centuries ago. European painters were only used to painting whites, so little by little Jesus became whiter every year and likewise with Adam & Eve or any other Middle Easten figures in the Bible.

I believe modern science says we were once all one colour (whatever that was), and then skin, hair and eye colours evolved depending on where people lived and what protection they needed from the sun. Those in hot climates developed dark hair, dark eyes, dark skin as part of their evolution.

Personally, that makes the most sense to me.
There are other theories however...

For example, I've heard ancient alien believers say that each race are descendants of a different ET races that seeded various parts of the planet.

Racist neo-Nazi types refuse to believe however that the Caucasian/Aryan race is at all related to the other races. But hey neo-Nazis and science don't mix...in fact, neo-Nazis and ANYTHING ELSE don't mix!

Whatever any of this has to do with the poor dinos I have no idea...

Yeah, well, what you say about evolution makes sense to me too. I was looking at the question from the Biblical believers' point if view. If we are to believe even Dinos were around in Noah's time and were wiped out by the flood, then what about all the other cultures in the as yet undiscovered world.
Noah and his wife reproduced all those cultures and put their offspring on yet more boats to sail off the edge of the world? But, no, as we know the world is round so, fortunately they ended up in other countries where then, I guess, evolution took place?

I guess you didn't get that I was bring satirical too James. Nothing on this thread can be taken seriously!
