Ron | 2722 comments The audiobook of The Rediscovery of America: Native Peoples and the Unmaking of U.S. History has been released today so that means I'll be doing a read-along.

I can't do audio on their own otherwise I get distracted and lose my focus. At least by doing the read-along with the physical, it makes things easier.

Oh, I used to have that problem when I first started audiobooks. I used get easily distracted and not focus on what I was listening and I had to always go back.

Carmen (TheReadingTrashQueen) (thereadingtrashqueen) | 1360 comments I thought for the longest time I couldn't do audiobooks. But then I figured out what to do to make them work for me. Occupy both brain halves at the same time (one side listens, the other colors/does a wordsearch/diamond painting/Calm Colors (game) etc etc). If I just have to sit and listen I could never!

Vaish B (vaishubieber) | 100 comments I got used to them by listening to them while doing mundane stuff like cleaning the dishes or doing laundry.. every day tasks…

Carmen (TheReadingTrashQueen) (thereadingtrashqueen) | 1360 comments That works, too! I just don't do them often enough, and I listen mostly at night before bed :P

Aquaria | 53 comments Question of the Week:
Have you read a book published in the past with limited/outdated technology that you felt still held up in our modern world with regard to characters, plot, etc.?

I've been reading two older mystery series, Peter Wimsey (Dorothy Sayers) and Roderick Alleyn (Ngaio Marsh). For the most part, they're holding up well despite the older technologies or lack of modern ones. In a way, the mysteries are more involved and fun for the lack of technology. You have to pay more attention to what everyone is saying, and keep track of who was supposedly where doing what when.

Ron | 2722 comments Woah, getting hit where I live with the smoke from the Texas Panhandle fires!

It's burned over 500,000 acres since yesterday and now the smoke is drifting towards where I'm at. No way am I going outside.

Stay safe Texans, and anyone else who is getting hit with the drifting smoke.

Jennifer W | 1840 comments I was wondering where you were in relation to the fires, Ron. Stay safe!

Leona (mnleona) | 244 comments I saw the fires on FOX this morning. Stay safe. Prayers sent.

Thanks. I won't give my exact location except to say that I'm getting the smoke from one direction or another. I checked the air quality index and it said it's at an unhealthy level.

If I go out I'm wearing my KN95 mask. There's no way I want to breathe in that stuff.

Ron | 2722 comments So glad someone on here reminded me of the movie 'Origin' otherwise I would have forgotten about it. The movie, written and directed by Ava DuVernay is a movie based on the book Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents . In interviews I watched with her people told her a movie based on this book could not be done. They were wrong!

I saw the movie last night and I was absolutely floored. I felt things I did not think were possible. I got angry, sad, infuriated, just everything.

I can say with 100% certainty that out of all the movies in my life, this is the best one I've ever seen. If people ever ask me what my favorite movie is I'm going to say 'Origin' every time. It was just that good for me.
