Hi,

I have been trying to find a short story that I read many years ago. Maybe around 20 years ago. And now I have been desperately trying to find it since days, without success. I would be indebted if I can have your help in figuring out the story title and the author.

The plot is like this ' A person who is shy and can not say no gets invited for a lunch (or dinner maybe). The host family after food, invite him to stay longer. Only because they were being polite and formal and not really meaning it. On the contrary, it was a subtle signal for the man to leave. But the man thinks that if he say no he would offend the lovely family. So he stays for dinner. And then stays for the night. And this goes on, till he ends being up a permanent house guest, because they keep asking for the next thing to sound polite and he keeps saying yes to not offend them, with a small sad twist in the end.'

I hope someone can help me find this short story and it's author. It would be very helpful.
