Not a pretty game at all with both teams making a lot of errors, probably as a result of pressure. But it was the Pies that came home strongest so credit to them. The Lions aren't playing like a team at the moment and their communication isn't great. Some of their stars are not shining at all - Lachie Neale and Hugh McCluggage are the exceptions. Suzy was the only one of us brave enough to tip the Pies so she wins $7.00 for Friends With Dignity.

The Pies did all they needed to do to run out simple winners. Whilst not looking great themselves there were signs that the defence has tightened up and generally the whole team playing for each other

Yes, you read that right and yes, we're not very good at tipping. I watched the first game with my heart in my mouth. St Kilda really should have won it. They are a better team than Essendon right now but their kicking wasn't accurate enough in the first three quarters and they ran out of puff in the final quarter when Essendon really mounted the pressure. Essendon still has glaring gaps in defence but were lucky to score some break-away goals. I'm not overly impressed with the standard of umpiring this season. There's far too many inconsistencies - especially with holding the ball. Both teams missed out on what I saw as free kicks and those offences that were pinged didn't warrant any attention in Friday night's game.
I only saw the end of tonight's game. I always enjoy seeing either of the Adelaide teams defeated at home. Their crowds are the most parochial of all and their booing is always the loudest. Take that, Port!

Western Bulldogs (Blastro) v West Coast Eagles (Sussex)

8.6.54 (Q2) 2.3.15

11.16.82 (Q4) 11.11.77
I hope Tim didn't have heart failure at the G yesterday. It looks as though the Swans stopped in the third quarter but came home strong, just too late.
Apologies for being late. I had a late night last night. As I posted on another thread : "And feeling my age now - I was at a gig tonight to see Southern rockers the Drive-By Truckers. They played (fabulously but loud) from 9.00 - 11.15pm. I was home by midnight but still buzzing. It's now 1.45am and time for me to turn in. I think I've reached the age for matinees only."
Tim may be interested to know that they changed the lyrics in their song "Let There Be Rock" from
"And I never saw Lynyrd Skynyrd but I sure saw Molly Hatchet
With 38 Special and the Johnny Van Zant Band."
to
"And I never saw Lynyrd Skynyrd and I never saw The Clash
but I sure saw Midnight Oil and Crowded House"
to great applause from the audience. And the Northcote Theatre is a lovely venue but be prepared to stand unless, like me, you can cite a disability (sciatica has taken three months of my life this year and still little relief) in which case you get a padded stool, with backrest at the front of the mezzanine floor (as long as you can get up the stairs).

ADELAIDE CROWS: Just so bland.
BRISBANE LIONS: Not about Vegas.
CARLTON: Finally not close!
COLLINGWOOD: Had to. Did.
ESSENDON: Midfield genuinely elite?
FREMANTLE: 3-0 = finals...
GEELONG: Wildly accurate again.
GOLD COAST SUNS: Had the bye.
GWS GIANTS: Had the bye.
HAWTHORN: Blue shell missed.
MELBOURNE: More Adelaide success!
NORTH MELBOURNE: Defensive personnel rough.
PORT ADELAIDE: The better side.
RICHMOND: Joy! And injuries...
ST KILDA: What happened late?
SYDNEY SWANS: Slight reality check.
WEST COAST EAGLES: Honestly? Weren’t awful.

Interesting how the lyrics changed and I bet the crowd did cheer.
You remind me so much of Victoria and myself when going to these small venues. Often standing and Victoria has to plead bad back or similar to find a seat.

This weeks tips and remember all being played in South Australia

I really enjoyed tonight's game. The Crows never gave up but the Demons had their measure all across the ground. I specially enjoyed the score as I had tipped the Dees by 15 so I win $7.00 for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.

Brisbane Lions (David) v North Melbourne Kangaroos (Steve)
7.3.45 (Q1) 2.0.12
11.9.75 (Q2) 3.1.19

13.7.85 (Q3) 6.5.41
17.9.111 (Q4) 6.6.42
I didn't see the earlier game but it was probably as dismal as this evening's game. After the first quarter Essendon were outplayed in every position. It's hard to pick a player who could rightly hold his head up. Maybe Andy McGrath. Meanwhile Port were superb. Connor Rozee and Jason Horne-Francis were amazing and Darcy Byrne-Jones is an unsung hero. back to the drawing-board Bombers.

The Dockers Blues game proved how exciting low scoring games can be but for me was ruined by disgraceful decisions for the Blues in the last minute that gave them a scoreline that flattered them.

West Coast Eagles (Sussex) v Sydney Swans (Anita)
2.0.12 (Q1) 3.5.23

14.7.91 (Q4) 14.11.95
I agree re the end of the Freo/Blues game. Hate to see results determined by arbitrary decisions. Tonight's game was also close. The Cats couldn't shake the Dogs but I think they deserved the win.

Just to remind all friends in the UK we end our summertime tonight so you will only be 9 hours behind our eastern states.

We have been to see the National Theatre Live screening of The Motive and the Cue this afternoon which is a play based on the rehearsals of a 1964 production of Hamlet directed by Sir John Gielgud with Richard Burton as Hamlet. Astonishing and anyone interested in theatre it is a must. Mark Gatiss played Gielgud and Johnny Flynn is an amazing Richard Burton. Tuppence Middleton was a very life like Liz Taylor. 3 hours of magic for me.

Gold Coast Suns (Suzy) v GWS Giants (Duke)
3.3.21 (Q1) 5.0.30
7.7.49 (Q2) 8.3.51
11.8.74 (Q3) 13.4.82
13.11.89 (Q4) 18.9.117
Richmond Tigers (Philip) v St Kilda Saints (Tim)
4.1.25 (Q1) 0.4.4
5.3.33 (Q2) 1.5.11
7.3.45 (Q3) 7.11.53
9.6.60 (Q4) 9.13.67
Collingwood Magpies (on hiatus) v Hawthorn Hawks (available)
4.1.25 (Q1) 1.1.7
9.4.58 (Q2) 3.2.20
11.6.72 (Q3) 7.5.47
11.11.77 (Q4) 11.6.72
As Tim said, there were times in each game when the result could have been very different. The Hawks battled their hearts out in the final quarter and will have given Collingwood a lot to think about.
