Gold Coast Suns
Port Adelaide Power
Geelong Cats
Carlton Blues
Fremantle Dockers
Melbourne Demons
Sydney Swans
Brisbane Lions
The weeks continue to get tougher and some teams (yes the Hawks) are messing with our heads. This week tips as follows and I had originally picked the Bombers but the Pies are nearly back to full strength:Pies by 8
Gold Coast ( although they do not seem to play outside of Queensland)
Port ( their season cannot be over yet surely?)
Hawks ( Geelong are going back and Hawks rising)
Blues ..unstoppable
Dockers...will build on this week
Demons.. although no foregone conclusion but Eagles seem to have had their moment
Swans..need to bounce back but Saints our bogey side
Lions

Steve - you've left off your margin
Thanks Val, I've now edited 👍
If I had picked the Bombers, they would never have won!Tonight's result:
Collingwood Magpies (on hiatus) v Essendon Bombers (Val)
5.2.32 (Q1) 2.5.17
8.4.52 (Q2) 6.8.44

From a 23 point deficit in the first quarter, the Bombers took control of the game and came away worthy winners. Suzy was the only one who tipped them so she earns another $7 for Friends With Dignity. Nice work!
No idea why I changed my mind. Think it was because Pies had a lot of players back but I ignored simple fact Bombers are a better team when playing well plusthey always seem to be up for games against Collingwood which is no bad thing.

Every team analysed after Round 17 in just three words.ADELAIDE CROWS: Valiant, at least.
BRISBANE LIONS: Five straight. Threatening!
CARLTON: Wobbly. Still confident.
COLLINGWOOD: TWO close losses?!
ESSENDON: Merrett AA skipper? (Bombers captain Zach Merrett for All Australian team captain??)
FREMANTLE: Top two chance!
GEELONG: Fortnight revives season.
GOLD COAST SUNS: F-bomb was warranted.(Coach Damian Hardwick describes his team's performance)
GWS GIANTS: Now repeat it.
HAWTHORN: A reality check.
MELBOURNE: Built valuable percentage.
NORTH MELBOURNE: 16th is gettable!
PORT ADELAIDE: Proper statement win.
RICHMOND: Debut in 18th.
ST KILDA: Pou, Saints brilliant. (Mattaes Philippou)
SYDNEY SWANS: Losing now preferable...
WEST COAST EAGLES: Simmo’s seat simmering. (Coach Adam Simpson under scrutiny)
WESTERN BULLDOGS: Flaws exposed badly.
Gee, what a dire round. I was expecting upsets, but not the ones that did happen! Thank goodness North came through, just. GWS surprised me.....don't know where this side has been these last few weeks, but long may they keep playing that way! But 2 in a row for Sydney?! Maybe GWS's hoodoo has switched to the Swans?!
Anita, we need to get our Swans back up and running. Callum Mills is finally back this week, but Heeney is appealing his one match ban which will be heard this evening. This is about far more than the ban. This is about the Brownlow Medal. If the ban stands, he cannot win it even if he does on merit because a ban excludes a player from winning whatever the circumstances. He is one of the fairest people on the pitch and he certainly did not intentionally strike his opponent last week as his immediate reaction shows. For those who do not know the Brownlow medal is the highest award any player can win as it is given to the best and fairest player over the course of a season based on points awarded by each field umpire in each and every game. Heeney has been predicted to top the list so far. The awards ceremony is a highlight every year and the outcome of the Brownlow is eagerly anticipated. Rant over my predictions this week are ( and yet again I find it tough)Cats by 9
Swans... (with or without Heeney!)
Freo....can really go either way
Blues
Crows
Bombers
Suns
Giants
Lions...even with Adam finally leaving Eagles.
I am getting dizzy up here, but pretty sure it won't last long.Collingwood x 10
Fremantle
Sydney
Carlton
Essendon
Adelaide
Gold Coast
GWS
Brisbane
The new rule is just stupid and everyone, coaches and commentators, are critical of it. It was just one of those movements that happen all the time in football. Heeney had no ill intent and was obviously concerned seeing the nose bleed. Stupid waste of time for all concerned. I hope he is free to play this weekend and remains eligible for the Brownlow. I don't think he will win it as he has too many good players around him to take votes off him. I'm tipping Marcus Bontempelli (Bulldogs) or Nick Daicos (Magpies) to win it but I will be very happy if Zach Merrett does enough over the next seven weeks to get it.
Collingwood Magpies + 04Hawthorn Hawks
Sydney Swans
Carlton Blues
Essendon Bombers
Adelaide Crows
Port Adelaide Power
GWS Giants
Brisbane Lions
Heeneys ban is a disgrace. It opens up all sorts of questions on fairness and impartiality. He certainly had no intention of swiping his opponent in the face. The tribunal have taken no notice of his previous exemplary record.
What's the bet the rule gets revised at the end of the season? And Heeney will have missed his chance at a Brownlow with no recourse. Shades of Corey McKernan and Chris Grant - I still believe they should be awarded retrospective Brownlows.
My tips:Pies x 13 (I'm still not ready to tip against them, injuries or not; Noble and Elliott are back too)
Freo
Swans (by a country mile, much though I admire North's efforts in recent weeks)
Blues (also by a healthy margin)
Dons (fingers crossed; thank heavens Max Gawn is injured this week)
Crows (even without Izak Rankine)
Port (tipping the Suns' home run will end)
GWS
Lions (resurgence after coach's sacking will not occur)
Tonight's result:Collingwood Magpies (on hiatus) v Geelong Cats (available)
4.5.29 (Q1) 3.5.23
6.8.44 (Q2) 7.6.48
8.10.58 (Q3) 10.9.69
10.11.71 (Q4) 13.13.91
Great game - especially by Geelong. They really stuck to their guns through all four quarters. Anita tipped them by 21 so she earns another $7.00 for The Mirabel Foundation. Well done!
I hear your support for Heeney Val but I am heartbroken for him. In short, if this happened to a Victorian based player he gets off. They just cannot stand teams from outside Melbourne winning. At the time no free was awarded. Yes he made contact but he was making a move 99 players out of a 100 would have done. Not sure even why the incident was referred.I am just so annoyed that a so called impartial tribunal can reach such an abject conclusion. Their own summation just did not make sense and did nothing to find Heeney guilty.
I have said enough on this but you can tell how strongly I feel and goes to show what teams outside Victoria have to go up against to win this competition. Playing in a Grand Final in Melbourne every year is clearly not enough of an advantage for them.
Geelong were really good this evening.
Sorry everyone. I do get emotional.
I agree the AFL does seem to have some "golden boys" that seem untouchable - Chris Judd in his day and definitely Paddy Cripps - he should have been rubbed out in the year he won the Brownlow - that was a really blatant offence. But, having said that and treating Geelong as a Melbourne team, more than half the 21st century's Brownlow winners have been from interstate and 8 of this century's Premiers have been from interstate as have 11 of the runners-up. The most unfair aspect of the competition IMO is the draw. In recent years Collingwood have travelled interstate much less frequently than other Victorian teams. The only answer to that seems to be all teams playing each other once but I'm not in favour of a shorter season plus you would have the added advantage/disadvantage of where each game was played.

More turn-ups! Only Suzy predicted a Bulldogs win and the less said about Essendon the better - such a dismal effort! And the Hawks did well to beat the charging Freo.
