Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14224 comments Assuming The Dispossessed/Le Guin win the poll, will subtitles be allowed?

Similar question for St. Patricks Day, and, if subtitles are allowed, can the word "three" be in the subtitle?

Yes and yes 🤗

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14224 comments Thank you 🤗

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14224 comments Because our mods have encouraged reading translated books by having it the basis for the group reads award, I was trying to figure out a way to look for translated books on my shelves. I found a Wikipedia list of Translation Awards. No, I don't have a lot of these books on my shelves, but I recognized many of the translated authors. I'm going to see if I can find tasks to fit the books I *do* have.

Valerie Brown | 3263 comments I see that with Joanna's current Readerboard update (up to post 350) she has me down as 835. My spreadsheet shows 840 (at that point), and I am wondering if the combo Rosemary found for me (see post 331) was missed.

Yes, this was my mistake. I told you about the extra points but didn't add them in the database. It's fixed now and should be fine at the next readerboard update.

Thanks, Rosemary!

Joanne (joabroda1) | 577 comments For the 30 point task re Countries of the world, is Non-Fiction allowed? I am currently readingThe Conquering Tide: War in the Pacific Islands, 1942–1944 and almost 50% through and have spent all this time in the Solomon Islands. I was not around when this project was started, and I would love to be able to help you all finish it

Yes! Please claim it in the Completed Tasks thread when you are done!

I'll be glad to answer, as this started when I was moderator. Absolutely yes! Nonfiction and fiction both can qualify for inclusion in this group project!

Joanne (joabroda1) | 577 comments I guess I should have asked this question first-The MPE shows 688 pages for the book. The actually text of the book is 544 pages. Everything after that is Acknowledgement, Author's notes and bibliography. What I have read so far is equal to 45% of 544-Which page number would be used? If it is the 688, I doubt I can count this book. I am positive there will be more of the Solomon Islands coming up, and more than likely some mentions in the notes and bib. how much is hard to discern.

This is how Goodreads counts pages.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 577 comments Ok then, I will keep a watch on the pages but I doubt that I can fill in the slot for you-sorry

As one of the originators of the group challenge, I think the intent was for the 51% to be that of the text. And we always trusted the reader's math when it was unlikely we would know any differently.
