Fantasy CP - plots / character arcs / worldbuilding

I have a couple of ideas for new books and am currently drawing up plot points and character arcs. I'm looking to take popular themes in fantasy (mainly gods and Fae) and subvert some tropes in order to snag an agent.

My name’s Allison, and I also write fantasy. Your idea of subverting popular tropes seems super cool and interesting and I’d love to hear about your ideas!

I’m also in the outlining stage on my current story and would greatly appreciate a critique partner to give feedback on plot holes and character arcs.

I’ve honestly never been a traditional beta reader before, but I worked as a nonfiction copy editor for a few years and I also worked as an editor for translated fiction (I gained a lot of patience from that haha).

This sounds like so much fun! What I miss when writing is someone to discuss everything with (my husband is getting tired of it haha). It would be great to follow each others journeys, read and share thoughts. Did I understand what you wanted out of this right?

I will say - I am new to this, but can be a picky reader. With that I want to add that I can be very flexible, adjusting feedback to whatever kind of criticism you're after ❤️

It would be useful to have a small community / writer's club as we'll all be able to see each other's viewpoints on the same books. I'm happy to do 1-1 with people or take part in a group partnership.

My old critique partner showed me a function of Google Docs where others can comment and 'make suggestions' to a text but can't copy or download it. Perhaps we could make a shared folder on Drive and drop our respective story ideas / outlines in there to be commented on?

The shared Google drive folder is a really good idea!! Does anyone have any ideas for where to start a group chat?

I'm having a look now. Discord looks good but might take some getting used to. WhatsApp is always a good choice as it has end-to-end encryption and most people already use it. Google Chat would fit well with a shared Google Drive folder, but lacks encryption. Most other platforms unfortunately cost money.

Anyone else have an idea?

I would love to be part of a small writing circle, especially because we all seem to be at the drafting stage of our books. I am writing a Fantasy, plotting book 1.

We'd love to have you in our group; I liked your story idea and appreciated your feedback.

I'm very happy to set up a WhatsApp group if everyone emails me their phone number. I'll also create a shared Google Drive folder and add your emails so we can start dropping documents in.

Just to let you know, I'm thinking of hiring a writing coach for 2-3 sessions to help me decide which story idea to pursue and plot a rough outline. In the meantime, I'll still share my initial ideas with you guys and give feedback on yours.
