WOW! You sure are a fast reader! I envy you.
I wish I could read more than only 12 books per month (and in some months it's only 8 books).

message 15: by Len (new)

Len | 51 comments Just one.

I don't see reading books as a competitive sport. If I really enjoy a book I will read it to the end. Otherwise, I don't care who the author is, he/she can wait until I'm in the mood. I'm the customer. I've paid for the book. I'll read it when I'm ready.

message 21: by Dee (new)

Dee Turner | 17 comments Who cares? Some books are fly-throughs because they're entertaining but brainless (and some aren't even entertaining); some are so packed with fantastic writing, creative ideas and intellectual rigor, they require us to chew thoroughly before swallowing. This race to count books and page numbers is odious because it substitutes quantity for value--which is a sad obsession in these dis-United States. It's a ploy by Amazon and its kindred publishers to get you to buy, buy, buy--but is it making you any smarter, or a better person?

I invite everybody in this thread to read "Against Counting the Books You Read--The number of titles you finish in a year says little about your actual reading habits" by Emma Sarappo, The Atlantic, 01/05/'24

message 23: by Emily (last edited Feb 11, 2024 06:44PM) (new)

Emily | 1 comments 2 books in a day- but I don't feel like it's a competition. I read to enjoy, and I read to learn. It honestly depends on what I am reading, and if I am taking notes, or just being entertained. The important thing is that I'm reading. :)

message 24: by sarah (new)

sarah | 288 comments One book in a day, at least 300 pages up to 500 pages. I won't read more than that in one day so that I can ponder thoughtfully on that book and appreciate its message and or meaning. yes Dee Turner I believe in quality and not quantity, reading to many in a day or even week bogs down my thought process with to many ideas and messages. its like eating something cooked with all kinds of spices that you can't enjoy the food, one spice can overpower all the other wonderful and powerful flavors that you can't enjoy or savor it. that's just me though everyone has their own way of reading and enjoying the books they read.
