He IS underrated, but I can't understand why. I mean, he is so cute and nice and he clearly didn't deserve what happened to him. About Helink... what can I say? They are amazing and I won't accept any other opinions.
Matthias is simply a character that goes through a lot of Development; and somehow people perceive him to be the most boring of the crows. Personally I believe it’s because he and Nina have met before the events of six of crows and their emotions are already there and very present, they don’t develop “afresh” compared to Kanej and Wesper which have new sparks flying all the time. I do believe that many people find Matthias’s POV quite boring as his actions are always heavily thought-through and he is a well-described character to the point where actions take longer to unfold, somehow? He has so much in er conflict to get over that many might find it boring, especially when he has incredibly long chapters. I personally think he’s the best ❤️ He goes through the most drastic changes and he has some of the best quotes the book has to offer. My favourite is what he says to Commander Brum prior to deciding to get Nina out of that cell in the ice court: “The life you live, the hate you feel - it’s poison. I can drink it no longer.”
