How do we feel about 3rd person pov's ?

I tried one book with 3rd person's pov and ended up DNF-ing it after struggling with it for days on end. I just couldn't get on with the story. it didn't click for me. the plot was not that bad but the POV just made it impossible to read.

Anyway, my personal favourites will forever be dual POVs but I am fine with a single person's too for the entire book.

also multiple pov's just make my head hurt and I really don't enjoy or follow along the book when it has more than 3 pov's

I think 3rd person is great, i like a level of distance between the protagonist and the narrator and a "wider view".
1st person pov can be great too, especially in stories that use it creatively or to explore the psychology of the characters, but being too deep inside a character's head can spoil my enjoyment if i don't like said character or their "voice".
...and sometimes it feels too much like reading some teenager's personal diary.

I used to hate 1st person and be absolutely obsessed with 3rd person but now it's the other way round.

I find it kind of dry and drained of emotion, yk?

Single narratives bore my brain tremendously, a few of my last reads have been singles...and my brain is literally screaming "shut up" as the narrator goes on and on about what is happening or why it is happening or who is making it happen to them...almost seems narrissistic. Continually reading someone's personal thoughts...boring. Hell, just reading what l wrote...bores me. Love triple narratives, raises the level of difficulty.

Earlier, I didn’t like 3rd person pov's. But in the matter of fantasy or more complex stories, it shows the story from different perspectives, not only from the eyes of the main character. I can read now both 1st and 3rd person pov's.

I really love 3rd person. As a writer myself I find it to be a wonderful way to showcase a unique style of narration. I do like 1st person as well, but I am often disappointed with the execution of 1st person stories. A lot of authors have trouble sticking the landing with 1st person IMO.

I like 3rd, but prefer it when it's tight 3rd. I'm not the biggest fan of omniscient, but I guess it really depends on the writer's style. I do like 1st when done well, especially with a good unreliable narrator.

Ultimately, I care more about writing style and voice, and I can deal with any POV as long as the author uses it well.

I prefer 3rd person POV. Not a fan of 1st. I hate being locked into one characters head and get bored quick.

I strongly prefer third person, past tense. First person narratives are limiting. If there is only one first person narrator, you have to like being in that person's head or the book is ruined. And if there are multiple first person POV, it usually gets hard to tell them apart since many authors have a hard time writing unique enough voices. It also doesn't make sense the way first person narratives have to work in descriptions in such none organic ways. Like, a person meeting up with their best friend wouldn't normally sit there and monologue in their head about all the details about what their friend looks like.

But like anything with reading, it's all subjective.

I sometimes have a harder time connecting with characters when it’s in third person. This wasn’t always the case - something that I’ve noticed in the past few months. Not sure why it’s changed for me. I’m currently reading the throne of glass books and the third person narrative is fine for action but I find it throws things off for me otherwise.

I personally LOVE third person, of course not everyone might agree, but I love hearing about the smallest things, like how orange the trees were or an in depth analysis on a characters features and personality. You don't often get that in say second person or first person perspectives. I hate the thought of being limited to only one persons views and thoughts, and when I'm reading 3rd person pov's even if it mainly focuses on this specific character, I love the freedom that comes with it?? However it really depends if it's done properly because I loved books like The Secret History despite perspective so at the end of the day that's the deciding factor, but by default I will always prefer a 3rd point perspective.

Hit or miss. Depends on who writes it. Personally I like when books are mostly dialogue so whatever one ends up with most convo among characters
