NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11060 comments This is an easy to read set of stories about people in a Tokyo neighborhood who are trying to find a place in the world for themselves. They use the local community house to take computer classes or use the library. Most of the stories are about people who need a change, a new job, to meet new challenges, balance, or plan for a future business. They all ended up with a key idea that improved their life in some way. It was never quite what they thought they were looking for. The idea of parallel careers really resonated with me. I hated the overly simplistic writing at the beginning, and some of the narration was terrible. I had to take a break or read something else in between each story. If it wasn’t for a reading challenge, and some great reviews, I might not have picked it up again. But each story eventually won me over, and kept me coming back for more. I liked how the stories eventually touched one another. Overall I I think it’s very worthwhile. It fits the “slice of life” tag very well.

I hope you like it. I was expecting it to be more like the reading list, so I was disappointed for awhile. Once I let go of that idea I could appreciate it for itself.
