While the Duke Was Sleeping (The Rogue Files, #1) by Sophie Jordan
While the Duke Was Sleeping by Sophie Jordan

Join us in reading this HR that features the theme Assumed or Mistaken Identity!

Synopsis:

Sometimes the man of your dreams . . .

Shop girl Poppy Fairchurch knows it’s pointless fantasizing about the Duke of Autenberry. Still, dreams can’t hurt anyone . . . unlike the carriage Poppy spies bearing down upon the unsuspecting duke. After she pulls him to safety, the duke lapses into a coma and Poppy is mistaken for his fiancée. But one person isn’t fooled: his arrogant and much too handsome half-brother, Struan Mackenzie. Soon Poppy isn’t sure what she wants more . . . the fantasy of her duke or the reality of one smoldering Scot who challenges her at every turn.

. . . is not who you think.

An illegitimate second son, Struan may have built an empire and established himself as one of the wealthiest men in Britain, but he knows he will always be an outsider among the ton. Just like he knows the infuriating Poppy is a liar. There’s no way the haughty Duke of Autenberry would deign to wed a working class girl. It doesn’t matter how charming she is. Or tempting. Or how much Struan wants her for himself.

Happy reading!

Oleander | 263 comments I started reading this last night to get an early start on March books. So far it's okay.

Mariana | 2692 comments I definitely plan to read this one.

Lauren | 1369 comments I enjoy SJ books, but this one seems to be based on While You Were Sleeping movie. Does the book follow the movie exactly, or does the book's plot loosely use this concept?

Xee (xeey) | 23 comments I just finished it. It's the first BOTM in years that I really really enjoyed. Its a sweet read. My heart was really feeling for both Poppy and Struan and I just wanted to squish /smoosh their faces together!

Oleander | 263 comments I finished this last night. I wish I had access to the movie as I would have liked to compare. I feel like the idea works better in a contemporary setting where you don't have to worry about the class difference. It did take quite a suspension of belief. That being said it was a sweet romance. The author did a good job of conveying the love the couple felt for each other when they couldn't even admit it to themselves.

Oh yea, this def needed more suspension of belief than regular
HR already do..But put that aside, it was such a sweet story for me..

Peaktopeak | 34 comments It was sweet to watch them fall in love, in spite of themselves. And I think Poppy and Struan were good together.

I was struggling with how much it followed the movie too, so I rewatched it.

The brothers hating each other really changed the flavor for me, I realized. They were competitive in the movie, but not the extreme hatred shown by the Duke in the book. And she had more support, she had a boss she discussed matter with. That would have helped in the book since her questioning was all in her head and got a little repetitive to me as a reader. I am not really sure what the point of the younger sister character was.

On the whole, my fondness for the movie helped me experience this one positively.

Mariana | 2692 comments I have not seen the movie, but I am not enjoying the book much. Maybe it's just not what I expected?

Mariana | 2692 comments I finished and rated it 2 stars. I just didn't buy their love. Lust - yeah! More than that? Maybe kinda at the very end.

I was expecting something lighthearted and fun, but I thought there was too much dark subject matter to fill that for me.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 584 comments The movie is amazing. One of my absolute favorite RomComs that I can watch over and over.

The book... not so much. It required too much suspension of disbelief for me.

Mariana | 2692 comments I will have to watch the movie.
