I loved this book so much. It’s about gaming … but rooted in the real world. Sam and Sadie are annoying people who make stupid assumptions and so often and so spectacularly fail to communicate … but you end up supporting them and loving them anyway. (Side note: in this respect, the book rather reminded me of Normal People). The story works in a whole load of tropes which should result in an epic fail … but it doesn’t. The side characters (Sam’s grandparents, the other game designers, Dov, lovers and friends) are more than NPCs - they are fully realised people, even if rendered in background colours to the main characters.

Oh I am so tempted to read this now since it fits the tag I landed on today (slice of life) but I was saving this for the technology tag. It seems like a much better fit for technology.
