I love books with unreliable narrators and Ishiguro always has an unreliable narrator (The Remains of the Day or an uninformed one Never Let Me Go, Klara and the Sun. In this early book of his, the narrator starts out giving the impression he is a retired artist who was famous and adored throughout his career. But as the book progresses, we learn that his memories aren't always trustworthy and there is more to the story relating to his actions during WWII which has just ended.
