message 12: by cooper (new)

cooper | 1 comments Five Survive by Holly Jackson

I just finished reading this and omg i LOVED it! I haven’t been able to concentrate and read and actually finish a book since I was a kid and it frustrates me because I LOVE reading. I actually read the entire book and loved it! So proud of myself! Definitely recommend!!!!

message 13: by Janelle (new)

Janelle | 4 comments if you're into comedy murder mysteries there's the Merry Wrath Mysteries and the Greatest Hits Mysteries. Both are by Leslie Langtry

Mrs Em C | 9 comments Thanks Janelle! Adding to my list.

message 15: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Niamh | 1 comments Currently reading - Christ on a Bike: Orla Owen.

Synopsis - Lady inherits a large sum of money from a stranger she prayed for in a church with no connection to, including a beach front house in Wales, car, kayak and the rest.. but it has conditions against it. Raises questions and self reflection..

Reason reading - went to the book launch in Trafalgar Square with the author to be more spontaneous in 2024 (The launch was mid week, on a school night!? what's more spontaneous!?).

Would 100% recommend this book!

I loved these books! I then read a court of thorns and roses, have you read that yet?

message 21: by Hannah (new)

Hannah VanGenne | 5 comments Jodi picoult is my favourite author (besides doctor author Toni lodge obviously) because you can tell how much research she does to really dig deep into her characters.

Fave books of hers and their big topics:

The storyteller (auschwitz, holocaust survivors)
A spark of light (women’s health clinic, hostage situation)
Mad honey (beekeeping)
My sisters keeper (if you saw the movie, no you didn’t)

message 22: by Kat (new)

Kat | 1 comments Some of my favs I've read with my book club!
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
House on the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune
Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney
American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins
Little Voices by Vanessa Lillie
Educated by Tara Westover

message 23: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hansen | 2 comments Anything by Carlos Ruiz Zafón! But mostly The Cemetery of Forgotten Books series. They've got everything, and SO well written.

Also recommend A Little Life, which is a book you'll NEVER forget. It's beautiful, but also comes with trigger warnings (sexual abuse, suicidal thoughts, etc). You shouldn't read this if in a bad mental space.

message 24: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Masters | 2 comments Love this! I’m excited for this group! (And being Toni’s friend on here haha)

My top 2 recently read books are:

1. Project Hail Mary - Andy Weir (btw - would love to see a Science Fiction topic board if possible! :D)
2. Demon Copperhead - Barbara Kingsolver

message 25: by Taleesha (new)

Taleesha White | 1 comments Divine rivals - Rebecca Ross
Enemies to lovers, war, magic, gods and goddesses and plot twists

message 26: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay Thomas | 1 comments The Witch’s Heart by Genevieve Gornichec

It’s a retelling of Norse mythology from the perspective of Loki’s mistress and holy crap it’s good. I couldn’t put it down!

The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Vampire Slaying by Grady Hendrix

This story takes place in Charleston, SC (a place I lived for several years, so it was cool to be like “oh I know where that place is” and stuff, but this bit is irrelevant). The title is about as accurate as you can get, except the story itself is more about the mental and emotional roller coaster the main character goes through as opposed to the actual vampire thing. It’s amazing, another one I couldn’t put down.

And if you’re into epic fantasy, I cannot recommend any books in Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere enough. I’m 62% through book 4 of an (eventual) 10-part series called The Stormlight Archive. The world building, the detail and nuance in the magic system, and the character and plot development? Oh my word 😅.

Jocelyn Ryan | 2 comments Definitely The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. It makes you think. Such a great book.

message 28: by Courtney (new)

Courtney Autumn (cawalters88) | 7 comments scrolling down through, I feel like I've found my people!! the Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman is one of my favorite series on recent years. I love seeing all the love for Midnight Library. I love anything by Matt Haig including his nonfiction (Reasons to Stay Alive was actually the first book of his I ever read.) Jodi Picoult is one of my favorite authors, too. I've been reading her for over two decades now. Also love anything by Fredrick Backman. and for one of my all time favorite books in recent years that I can't recommend enough: The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne. I also love pretty much anything within the mystery/ thriller/ suspense genre

My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry by Fredrick Backman was so beautiful!

message 31: by Teneil (new)

Teneil (jimothyjumbles) | 3 comments Hi all! Loving all these recommendations!

Here are some of my faves of the last few years:

The Winternight Trilogy - Katherine Ardern (gorgeous fantasy based on Russian folklore)

The Locked Tomb series - Tamsyn Muir (lesbian space necromancers - unhinged and amazing!)

When We Lost Our Heads - Heather McNeill (hilarious dark feminist/female friendship perfection)

The Montague Siblings series - Mackenzi Lee (queer period dramedy).

So glad to be here with y'all!

There are so many suggestions here for books I haven't heard off, I'm adding them to my list of books to be read. It's nice to have more options than the same ones getting recommended on tiktok over and over
