Roots of Chaos series reading order

I want to read A Day of Fallen Night and The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon but I cannot decide how to read them. ADOFN was written second but is chronologically before TPOTOT. The author said TPOTOT was an easier starting point, but if you don’t want any spoilers, start with ADOFN. How difficult are these to follow? Would it be in my best interest to start with TPOTOT for ease?

Anyone who has read both, what order did you read them and what order do you recommend??
