For as long as she can remember, Rio has dreamt of the sand and sky Above—of life beyond her underwater city of Atlantia. But in a single moment, all her plans for the future are thwarted when her twin sister, Bay, makes an unexpected decision, stranding Rio Below. Alone, ripped away from the last person who knew Rio’s true self—and the powerful siren voice she has long hidden—she has nothing left to lose.
Guided by a dangerous and unlikely mentor, Rio formulates a plan that leads to increasingly treacherous questions about her mother’s death, her own destiny, and the complex system constructed to govern the divide between land and sea. Her life and her city depend on Rio to listen to the voices of the past and to speak long-hidden truths.
Ashley and me will be reading this and all of you feel free to join us if you want (:
Through Chapter 2 (view spoiler)[This is too descriptive. I feel like there should be more action. Something going on. It's mostly just thoughts about the city without much of anything happening.(view spoiler)[ (hide spoiler)](hide spoiler)]
Chapter 1 (view spoiler)[ already this is different to what I was expecting, for some reason I had it in my head that this was a mermaid book - which of course it isn't! The choosing of above and below reminded me a bit of divergent when they have to choose their factions. I wonder what was so strange about her voice that made them react so much? (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ yes it is very descriptive, it really is just her walking around and talking to someone now and then, it's a bit slow. I'm hoping it will pick up soon! I've seen some pretty mixed reviews about the book (hide spoiler)]
Through chapter 5 (view spoiler)[For her and Bay having spent so much time together, Bay sure had a lot of time to go do things without her knowing...<\spoiler> (hide spoiler)]
Chapter 8 (view spoiler)[ so Bay got Fen to sell her mother ring, but why did she want Rio to have the money? And if she had something going on with Fen how come Rio didn't know about it? They lived together and spent most of their time together? (hide spoiler)]
Chapter 16 (view spoiler)[ for a horrible moment I thought that elinor was going to give up her mask for Rio! I wonder how many people died at the deep market? (hide spoiler)]
Chapter 22 (view spoiler)[ she's going to up to the above even though she knows they will kill her up there and that Nevio is sending them up there and killed people in the deepmarket? Is she insane?! (hide spoiler)]
