Isabella | 22 comments I somewhat relate. I have a love-hate relationship with dark romance. I have read and generally enjoyed books in that genre (as I'm not sensitive and enjoy dark themes), but I won't deny that it has some... problems. Many dark romance books romanticize what shouldn't be romanticized. These books also rely on shock value — trashy but effective. There's also stereotypes and over sexualization as well. I don't take much issue with that (as I think we all can tell the difference between fantasy and reality) as I do with the hype. Many of these communities on social media are made up of young people (myself included) and more importantly, preteens/teens. Let's not forget that when we talk about dark romance books, its spice, and bad boy love interest, we are also broadcasting it to an audience that includes teens. I find it very concerning that I've seen 14 year olds picking up dark romance books, for goodness sake.

Stefy B. | 6 comments I have tried to read a couple of books that were labelled as dark romance and quickly realised that those are not for me. Usually the dark part just overpowers everything to me that I just don't feel is a romance anymore, so I end up Dnfing the books.

Rori | 99 comments I don't like romantic books. It doesn't matter if they are dark or light or cute.

Jen | 1 comments Dark romance is in the bottom of my preferred genres (I do not hate it, just that there are far more interesting genres for me) but I could give it a try if the book description is promising and after all my current reads and after I ran out of books that are already in my shelf which are around 200 plus. :))

Celeste | 40 comments Romance isn't my favorite genre in and of itself but I'd rather read the back of a shampoo bottle than a dark romance. Made that mistake once, the "dark" part was straight up SA... ugh

Sam K (zutara123) | 251 comments I really don't like dark romance books. i do love a good romance book though.

becs | 178 comments youre def not alone there, sometimes i'm like ...what? i dont understand why some people like it but i respect what they like i suppose. but a lot of times with books like that, it just feels like the writing also tends to be quite bad

message 11: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Clauson I'm not into them either just not to my likings

message 12: by rea🖤 (new)

rea🖤 | 5 comments I've never read it but I can't see myself giving it a chance. If I did give it a chance, it wouldn't be a fair one by any stretch.

message 13: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Thomason | 15 comments not a fan either

jayla (semi-inactive) I’ve never read the genre and I don’t plan on it. I find that a lot of the books just romanticize sa/r*pe and that makes me extremely uncomfortable.

message 15: by Marti (new)

Marti omg noo, I swear when I try to read dark romance my mind is like cringecringecringe. Sorry, I just can't with them

message 16: by Azari (new)

Azari (azarvyx) | 25 comments not just you, I thought I hadn't found the one for me but I just don't think it's the genre for me. I just don't like unhealthy relationships that end up being end game, I can't get over the toxic things they do to each other. I always thought dark rom would be like they're toxic to everyone around them together, like two evil villains who you shouldn't want to see win but secretly root for, but apparently that's not dark rom. so it's not for me

message 17: by Shawna (new)

Shawna Finnigan (sugoishawn) | 120 comments I'm not into it because I find that dark romances often glorify/romanticize problematic things :(

message 18: by Kar (new)

Kar I don't like Rom but I love dark stuff

Audrey Adams | 39 comments I love romance, hate dark romance though 😂

message 22: by rowan (new)

rowan | 88 comments im def in the minority here coz i read dark romances pretty often, but i won't be defending it either lol. All y'alls reasons are valid with a capital V. Not every single dark rom, but a lot actually do romanticize some really problematic stuff. I really just do be picking and choosing as wisely as I could when I'm in the mood for the darker side of romance books, and I could name a few authors I steer clear of because of this, but sometimes I still end up reading some f'ed up sh*t paraded as romatic sooo. TLDR: dark rom is a hit or miss genre, play at your work risk, just know the game is mostly likely rigged༎ຶ‿༎ຶ
