(view spoiler)[This book is unbalanced, and the pace is really uneven. It is almost like the first 60% of the book, and the second 40% of it are two separate books altogether. Once they start to have sex is all about that and their relationship, sort of, and way less than the killing and the game. And the ending... it was so unoriginal! I didn't see the twist coming, meaning David. That was crazy and it surprised me, for sure. But the "I hurt you so you leave, because if you stay you'll die/suffer/whatever" part was just... meh! Me either it the were so funny that I had to share them with my bf and his two kids. They were like what how do you accidentally eat someone lol. When the parts came up in the book i had to read them out loud so they can experience with me haha.

I am wondering, though, why wait for 1 year to do the competition and see each other again? It makes no sense so far. (I am still early on, 21%)

So I was wondering abou the entire timeline, and I have a theory + I think something is miscalculated.

1) I think I figured out why there is a 1 year gap in the beginning. Though it bugs me that they didn't text.
They were both after Albert Briscoe in Chp 1, and Sloane got there first. So it's kind of symbolic that they would compete every year to commemorate this.
It's like their yearly vacation, they take a week off from their respectice work and go somewhere else to do this activity!

2) In chapter 16, Rowan tells Sloan (view spoiler)[ that he's been waiting for her for four years. But that doesn't add up. It adds up to 3 years, walk with me with the logic. Met at Briscoe's Day 0 - then Francis Year 1 - then Thorsten year 2 - then Harvey year 3 (it unfolds) (hide spoiler)]

I finished the book and as fun as it was, I maybe expected more.

- it wasn't as dark as I had hoped it to be or expected it to be.
- it was as funny as I expected it to be for a dark rom-com

I don't think it was overhyped at all. I just didn't get the full dark and comedy aspects

I agree with our thoughts on the darkness or the lack of it. I guess the dark part is the game and basically falling in love over their hobby. how did you like the ice cream part?

honestly... with the amount of "ruined ice cream forever" comments, I thought it was going to be more depraved... like it would have been ruined for me had the cookies been something...
