Killua | 364 comments I thoughts it would be fun to read more this year so i started of strong by reading 5 books in 5 days and then I got in a reading slump i read 2 books after and then I landed in a complete slump. My book is literally laying on the couch next to me staring at me what should i do?

Apple˚✧ (ia-study) I feel like audiobooks help at this stage, when I cant finish a book I listen to its audiobook along with reading it (well ya if im lucky enough to find audiobook..)

rumaisa ⋆౨ৎ˚˖ ࣪ | 16 comments Try re-reading a book that you really like

Rissa (rissasreading) (rissasreading) | 177 comments I usually re-read a book I like or I read short stories :)

Shelby Kay | 29 comments I second the advice above, rereading or an audiobook but if it’s a book you know you’re interested in but just can’t get through it for some reason I suggest looking up fan art or a fandom for the story you’re reading. Sometimes seeing other people excited about the world or characters gets me excited sometimes I’m more willing to start reading again. Idk if it will help but it doesn’t hurt to try to get yourself excited about a book from other’s excitement! 😊

paula kenneth | 0 comments just give yourself a longer break, read something you love and is yours "comfort book" and then go back, maybe it will help? idk just don't push yourself it will not help

octav | 31 comments reading shorter books might help you. allow yourself to take a break if you really don’t feel like reading, but if you really really want to read but can’t bring yourself to, put the book you’re currently reading on pause and maybe try shorts stories, a novella or even rereading one of your favorite books. :)

Jo Kerr | 76 comments Give yourself a day away from reading completely. Then look at the book you’re wanting to read - if you inwardly groan at the thought of picking it up then don’t!

Sometimes a ‘palette cleanser’ of a book from a different genre, or a short, easy read book helps me

Good Luck! Let us know how you get on!

Marti Sometimes when I really want to read a book but I'm too tired to do so, I like to put on the audiobook and follow the words in the book with my eyes. It is a way to continue reading in a much more relaxed and entertaining way, with the soundtrack of the audiobook in the background. If you haven't tried it, do it, it's a nice experience.

Melissa Stretton | 23 comments I always give myself a little break from reading. sometimes I listen to audiobooks or watching my favorite shows or movies for a few days.

Jose Marrero | 2 comments I find that for me, listening to music with a nice ambiance helps. spotify has some great selections. I also take breaks, a day or two or read a chapter then put down your book. make your reading time as your me time and try not to make it feel like a race or task. I was the same when I started, now I treat each book like a friend i'm hanging out with, maybe for an hour our 30 minutes thats up to you.

Pete Quigley | 7 comments I agree with the comments about "listen to audiobooks for a while", or re-reading a book I love.

The one thing that works for me is to sit in the car by the ocean, or take my book to a library or bookstore where I am surrounded by books (I don't know why that works) or take my book to a favourite coffee shop and read.
I guess ambience is everything.....?

G D | 6 comments How about using a Reading Timer? I began to use one some months ago and it keeps me focusing on the books. Even for me, reading books up to 300-400 pages can be intimidating. So using a timer app not only gets you focused but tracks your habits time-wise.

First of all, don't try to read any specific number of books, whether or not in any specific period of time. You're being prompted to do that by publishers and Amazon, don't fall for it. Reading should be enjoyment, never a duty or chore!

Next, choose a fictional work about a topic you love--romance? Mystery? Historical fiction? Fantasy? Adventure? You can find endless lists by genre right here in Goodreads--there should be more than a few to pique your interest. Then look to the number of reviews for books you see in your list--generally, the more reviews, the better the book.

Find a place to read. Don't try to read while sitting at your work desk! Maybe you like to read lying down, scrunched deeply under a comforter (that's my go-to). Maybe you prefer a recliner near a window, so you can lift your eyes to nature every once in a while. Be comfortable where you read.

Finally, maybe find a time to read--one where you won't be interrupted. It may not always be available, or you may read at other times, but you'll probably find there's a great time for you to read. Don't have the TV on, or your favorite playlist, while you're reading--you can't really focus with all that happening.

And most importantly, trust yourself. If you need a break, take it. You'll find your way, just keep going and don't give up on reading, it's good for the spirit.

Dee, which adventure books are out there for adults? I loved the Adventure series by Enid Blyton and her Famous Five series, but miss adventure books since I'm in my twenties. Magic and books like "Harry Potter" are nothing that appeals to me, but maybe you have a non-dystopian suggestion?

Jocie C | 10 comments I normally read something short and spicy or I read a book I’ve read before and really like.

Kai's Darling | 660 comments I was in a reading slump for... about 5 days or maybe even 6
and what makes it worse? All This Twisted Glory is sitting, waiting, in my kindle. which I had been waiting for over a year ;) so I just sat and started slowly, slowly reading bit by bit. until finally last night I shot out of it. so I suggest to read bit by bit everyday, and casually wait for it to pass
