Kris | 12 comments I read this in the late 80s or early 90s. I remember very little except that one of the men uses a knife to cut off his face to keep from being possessed by the djinn. There are others in the home and the way he looks is described very thoroughly when he is around the others.

The Djinn by Graham Masterton?
- Amazon's preview (sample): https://www.amazon.com/Djinn-Graham-M...
- There are different cover images.
One Goodreads reviewer says:
- "... while visiting his godmother, during his godfather’s funeral, Harry finds himself involved in a weird situation, when he finds out his godfather killed himself by cutting out his face, because he was trying to prevent the awakening of the inhabitant of an ancient Persian jar he bought years ago, from Iran."
Google search of Goodreads:
site:goodreads.com "horror" "cuts off his face" djinn

Kris | 12 comments I really don't understand how you all are doing this. I have been searching for these books for years. I only have one left on my list.
Thank you so much!

You're welcome! Glad you found your book, Kris.

I find a narrow Google search of one specific website (like Goodreads or Amazon -- "site:[website]") is helpful, because each website contains a huge "database" of reader reviews full of detailed book descriptions.
