SOLVED. Adult Horror from 80s or 90s about a house that is haunted by a djinn and one man cuts off his face to keep the djinn from possessing him. [s]

I read this in the late 80s or early 90s. I remember very little except that one of the men uses a knife to cut off his face to keep from being possessed by the djinn. There are others in the home and the way he looks is described very thoroughly when he is around the others.

I find a narrow Google search of one specific website (like Goodreads or Amazon -- "site:[website]") is helpful, because each website contains a huge "database" of reader reviews full of detailed book descriptions.
