If you can give me a head's up, that would be great, but I'll double check things either way, so don't stress too much. spoilers aren't a thing that super bug me, so I'm happy to look into things if people don't want to.
Having skimmed the reviews of some of the books up for April voting, it's become clear that one of the books (Daughter of the Forest) has a descriptive/graphic rape scene in it. Personally, that's not something I want to read, and ordinarily I would be turned off reading a book because of it.
However, I also think that it's important to discuss issues that effect girls and women, such as rape, and I don't want to categorically state 'no books about rape ever' because of that. But I do want this community we're building to be a safe space for all of you, and that means not forcing or pushing people to read books with graphic rape scenes in them.
So my current thought is this: I will do a better job of vetting books for the poll beforehand and making it clear that they contain graphic content. (This is not limited to rape - if there are other things you find triggering, please let me know through whichever avenue you find most comfortable, including anonymously on tumblr if you prefer).
If a book that contains graphic content such as rape does win the poll, I will also put up a post (and do a giveaway for) the book with the next most votes that does not feature such content.
However, these are just my current thoughts - if you have your own thoughts, ideas, or levels of comfort, please put them here. I definitely want to keep an open dialogue about situations like this.
