SOLVED. Teens experimented on, turn violent. [s]

I think I read this in the 90s, I remember the main character was spacing out and maybe killed some animals unintentionally (and strangled a mop handle) because of some experiment. Something was being harvested from glands or something, by the end of the book (spoilers, I guess) the main character isn't exactly cured but actually turns more monstrous but not as violent and wanders off. I think the one evil scientist swerves to avoid him on the road and dies in a crash. Not sure if any of that helps. It wasn't the best book, but it is KILLING me trying to remember the name for some reason. Thanks!

I think one of the books in the Lockdown series involves the main character becoming a monster, but I haven't read those books yet so I'm not sure. Good luck finding the book, anyway; it sounds interesting. :)

Nope, not that one - but thanks for taking the time to look and comment! This was a standalone, not a series. And they didn't turn into total monsters, except one or two at the end and even then it was more of a... kind of a Mr. Hyde thing almost. I think.

Nope, although that sounds like an interesting one! Thanks for trying! This one took place in the U.S., and the people weren't captive if I remember right. They were going about their daily lives.
