I read this book sometime around 2009, not sure exactly when. The main character was a woman who gets recruited to work on a secret project using a new invention that lets you see into the past using light particles.

In particular I remember a scene where they took a snapshot of a person in biblical times and her face was half missing- not because there was anything wrong with her, but because it a snapshot of a single millisecond and the photons hadn't moved into place, or something like that.

I can't remember many details other than that, except that someone starts murdering people on the project and at some point the power gets cut off, making the building extremely hot.

If anyone has an idea I'd appreciate it. I've scoured Google with every search term I could think of and haven't found it.
