Helen, a PI warlock who sold her soul to the devil in exchange for her younger brother's life, has an opportunity to reclaim her soul if she identifies this White City Vampire killer. Excellent story, plenty of action, and its Faustian inspiration taken in a new direction. Loved the primary characters Helen and Edith, and Marlowe was just great! Setting it as an alternative history allows for themes about women's lack of power and ownership as well as the treatment of lesbians to be explored too. One of the things that I really liked is how well constructed and satisfying the story was at its short length. It did not need to be longer. I am now eager to read more by this author.
