Nicole | 10 comments thank you both.

I'm Just Ken | 51 comments Just for clarification and managing expectations, Fourth Wing and ACOTAR are romantasy which is a subgenre. As the name implies, it's romance focused as opposed to hard fantasy. Just wanted to clarify if that's what you're looking for! Enjoy!

Alisha Whitten (lishywhitt) | 8 comments I'm also reading the ACOTAR series and I'm on the third book. It's my first romantasy read and I'm obsessed! The characters, the development, the storyline - all amazing!

Nicole | 10 comments I'm not sure what I'm looking for to be honest. I mostly read thrillers. so I am literally going in blind.

Annabella | 284 comments If you want to start with YA fantasy then Cruel Prince or Powerless (Cruel Prince is a completed series and Powerless isn't so it depends if you want to wait), since you like thrillers it might be best to start with Powerless, there are trials and lots of tension.

I can't not mention Sarah J Maas, so ACOTAR, which is mildly spicy and low on the world building so good as a starter, or Throne of Glass is not spicy but slightly confusing, especially if you havent read fantasy before. Also as a warning, entering the world of Sarah J Maas is a 15 book commitment, but its so much fun!

I would recommend not starting with Fourth Wing because I feel like it would be better to be used to some of the tropes and how fantasy worlds work first, but I'm sure you'll love it anyway if you start with it :)

I'm Just Ken | 51 comments If you're looking for romantasy in addition to Fourth Wing and ACOTAR, Divine Rivals is another really good one. If you're looking for starter fantasy, cozy fantasy may be the way to go just to see if you like it. It's low stakes and more about the vibe and cutesy - House in the Cerulean Sea, Legends & Lattes, and Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries. If you want more to go more to the deep end Mistborn, Game of Thrones, Wheel of Time, which are contemporary classics. Lord of the Rings goes without saying. There's much more of course depending on what your interests are, but hope this helps as a starter.

I'm Just Ken | 51 comments You can also go the YA route if adult fantasy is too big of a step, in which case I'd recommend Shadow & Bone (going in to Six of Crows). They're very accessible.

message 11: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 10 comments thank you!! I'm going to look on my kindle just now to see if any of the above are on unlimited just now (not ACOTAR or fourth wing) I have seen both powerless and house in the Cerulean sea so I will have a look.

thanks for taking the time explaining, much appreciated (:

Nicole | 10 comments YA is definitely for me, I love how easy they read that's definitely a good option so I'm searching right now for them

message 13: by Jooo (new)

Jooo (jodenis) If you are new maybe u should start with something not to high fantasy. If u like a classic once upon a time fantasy with a comedy twist u must read So This Is Ever After or Legends and Lattes. They are both super cozy stories with not drama at all.
But if u are into something different and dark Victoria Schwab is a good way to start. Addie Larue is one of the best best books ever and it's an stand alone too. Also she has a wonderful saga called Shades of magic with an amazing worldbuilding focused on the idea of paralel Londons. Another similar option with kingdom vibes series is C.S Pacat. All of them have great lgbtq representation as well. Hope that helps.

Julia Guidry | 74 comments I would recommend the Three Dark Crowns series, it is a pretty tame fantasy. ACOTAR and Fourth Wing are popular, but not the best fantasy books ever. the Shadow and Bone world is also a good starter series.

Mbhabibti | 88 comments As everyone else said I recommend starting with ACOTAR. I am a few years younger than you and have been been reading fantasy my whole life but took a long hiatus in my 20s. My sister lent ACOTAR to me a couple years back and that series is what rekindled my love of reading.

My favorite fantasy series of all time is Throne of Glass (written by the same author as ACOTAR) But also recommend the Kindred Curse and Plated Prisoner series.
