Unable to combine editions

Hello - I'm a librarian and an unable to combine the below editions of a book because I can't add the author's penname/other name to either book. It's clear that M.A. Comley and Mel Comley are the same person.
M.A. Comley is a GR author but Mel Comley doesn't appear to be so. But it's clear they are the same person when you look at the M.A. Comley profile because her blog spot uses the Mel Comley name.

I'm not sure if I'm unable to add the author name because of the recent site update issues, because the Mel Comley author name isn't a GR author or because they took away the ability for regular librarians to add authors. Regardless of the reason, the editions should be combined - maybe even merged.

LaurLa, Mel Comley needs to be added to the M.A. Comley editions, as that is the name on the cover.

I've done that for the first one.

To do so, you need to add MelComley (no space) to the secondary author field. Save. Then add the space & save the author name. Then you can move it to the top author field.

Leave the M.A. Comley author name as the secondary author, then don't forget to combine that stray edition.

It's just the database being difficult.

Is the no space thing standard or just something specific to this author name? I don't recall having this problem before, that's why I ask.
