Something I really enjoy about Era #2 is how Sanderson explains the evolution of the planet and society, and how it so seamlessly melds with the past events of era #1. The mentions of past characters now deemed as gods, how the streets and cities are named after past characters, the evolution of allomantic and Feruchemical powers, all of it!!

I also find the kind of Wild West/cowboy-esque or even steam punk at times setting to be sooo cool and super different from the original fantasy setting!

Overall, it is so different from era #1 yet still incorporates elements in such a nuanced way.

MAJOR LOST METAL SPOILER AHEAD

Also I’m in LOVE with Wayne’s character, his banter, his childhood backstory, his growing complexity throughout the series, and his intense goodheartedness… his death nearly BROKE me, I have never cried so hard for a book before!!

Marwan | 133 comments Damn the part about Wayne really hit me hard. His death was something that I really didn't see coming at all, I actually thought that Wax was going to die as all his talk about being the "Sword" of Harmony and him not wanting to do this ever again, this stuff really made me almost mourn him already while reading! And then Wayne does that.
Well, he was a hero after all, it was his story as much as it was Wax's, but we just kept forgetting that because he always seemed to follow Wax, but the series was named The Wax&Wayne series for a reason.

As for the Mistborn era 1 vs 2 atmosphere I absolutely love how the characters we knew and loved became the mythology of the next era.
It was just so awesome to see that in moments of doubt, Marasi would wonder to herself if the Acendant Warrior has felt doubt or pain like this, and it's crazy because we just know how painful Vin's story is.

Brandon truly pulled off the most incredible time jump I've ever encountered in fiction, and to make it like the world truly and naturally evolved without feeling like anything is forced or out of place is just some genuis writing.

Marwan | 133 comments All that and I didn't mention Steris. She's gem that should be protected at all costs. Honestly happy that Wax and Steris get a sort of "lived happily ever after" because they truly deserved it❤
And since we're talking about our favorite parts of era 2, I need to say that the appearance of Thaidakar and the Ghostbloods was one of the most incredible twists in the whole series, tying in era1, era2, Elantris and the Stormlight archive all together. Insane stuff!!

Could not agree more!!! The Ghostblood reveal was crazy!! I’m actually very surprised Marasi didn’t end up joining them.

But yea Steris is so underrated, I loved her character development and her and Wax’s somewhat unexpected romance, they make a great team.

I’m so excited to see how era #3 plays out and how Sanderson handles the next time jump/evolution

Marwan | 133 comments Marasi not joining them was surprising but not hard to believe, her character arc revolves around her maturing and focusing on solving the important issues. If she chose the Ghostbloods, she would have gone for the mystery, the adventure and the unkown, something young Marasi would have absolutely chosen. But this Marasi just couldn't go on a mythical quest while there are still people who are suffering in the world, and I love how grown she've become.

I believe era 3 will be revolving around the Ghostbloods and Thaidakar after another long time jump, so it's probably going to be on a technologically advanced Scadrial, like ALLOMANCY BUT WITH LASER GUNS???
I love how the story in Mistborn and the Cosmere in general is slowly going from fantasy to sci fi! It's without a doubt the most ambitious book series I've ever come across.

So true about marasi…

I’ve heard rumors that it might be set in like just pre computer world but I could be wrong!! I absolutely love this switch too, it’s something no other fantasy author has ever done, as far as I’m aware

Marwan | 133 comments Ok so I went digging in a couple of fan conversations on Reddit and some articles and I found that Brandon's original plans included 3 eras to Mistborn, but as time went on, he changed said plans to have 4 eras! A third that has almost modern technology(talking 80's and 90's tech), and a fourth Mistborn era that is just straight up science fiction and set in the far future on Scadrial!!!
All I can say is that I hope that Sanderson lives a long healthy life☺

Omg I cannot wait!!! I second he needs to live at least until he concludes all these series!!

SAH.Bookmom | 35 comments Does anyone know if the Era 2 books are available in harcopy? I can’t seem to find them. I can find the paper back box set.

message 11: by Marwan (new)

Marwan | 133 comments With the exception of the Way of Kings, I only read the books on Kindle.

This is the link where you can submit a ticket to Dragonsteel, and hopefully they can answer your question.

Peter Costea | 8 comments The third Era is going to be a 80s 90s spy thriller with early computer technology. It may involve hunting a *spoiler Era 2* mistborn serial killer.

Era 4 is going to be future tech and cosmere wide. *spoiler for many of the secret projects and short stories* but technology across the the cosmere is advancing and a few of our favorite planets are going to be on the opposite side of an intergalactic war

Marwan | 133 comments *Cosmere spoilers*

I'm reading the Sunlit Man now Peter, and all these connections are staggering me. It's all turning into an alloy of sci fi and fantasy and I'm loving it!

message 14: by Peter (new)

Peter Costea | 8 comments Yeah man it's awesome! I'm in Sunlit right now as well. Loving the world. Loving trying to piece together what's happened in stormlight to get this character up this point. He definitely dropped a reference to "Rock" at one point.

Marwan | 133 comments Makes me so sad thinking what could have happened.
Hopefully we get some answers in Stormlight 5

Adeline R =) | 5 comments See I really hated it when Wayne died, but also it was great. Sanderson is really really really good at killing off characters in a way that is heartbreaking, but also beautiful. Other than that, my favorite part was probably the era one ending. Again HEARTBREAKING, but also beautiful

message 17: by Marwan (new)

Marwan | 133 comments Yeah. Unless it's Kaladin. That's when I riot!!

message 18: by Kennedy (new)

Kennedy Holmes | 22 comments Okay... I just got stuck on the intergalactic war!?!?!

Brandon Sanderson had better live to finish these off. No Wheel of Time for him, no one could wrap it up as well as he could. A part of me just wishes he could write forever...
