We've got False Colours lined up for next month, but what shall we do in March?

Let us have your idea in the comments below and we'll have a poll - books nominated but not chosen last time can be nominated again, but please avoid anything we read in 2022 or '23.

I'll keep nominations open for a week or until we have 5 candidates if that's OK.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ I've archived the 2022 Group read thread, but here it is.

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I'd like to nominate Sprig Muslin.

Barb in Maryland | 816 comments I'm going to go with Powder and Patch

Both, "Spring Muslin" and "Powder and Patch", I will read if they win, but I nominate another one: April Lady.

Teresa | 2187 comments I'll nominate The Black Moth!

I bought the Heinemann hardback version a few months ago, but haven't read it yet. That would be a chance to crack it open!

So Sprig Muslin, Powder and Patch, April Lady, Black Moth ...

One more nomination to go!

message 10: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 1730 comments Have we read The Black Moth as a group before? I have no memory of it but we can't go by that.

message 11: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 2187 comments Well I checked the 2023 list and the 2022 and didn't see it there.

I treated myself to this edition last year, The Black Moth by Georgette Heyer

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Jackie wrote: "Have we read The Black Moth as a group before? I have no memory of it but we can't go by that."

At least three times - 2015, 2016 & 2020. (I have a feeling it may have also been read in the very early days of this group, but search isn't working properly.) It is also out of copyright so there are free versions available online.

Sprig Muslin 2016 & 2019

P&P 2016

April Lady 2019

Critterbee made this list in our secret group.

Teresa | 2187 comments Thanks for the info Carol! P&P is not a favourite of mine.

With the alternate ending it would lead to some good discussion though. :)

message 16: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 2187 comments Oh yes if it's picked I'll read it. Wouldn't be my first choice though.

Susan in NC (susanncreader) | 4143 comments I’ll nominate the next in the Hannasyde and Hemingway series, Behold, Here's Poison Behold, Here's Poison (Inspectors Hannasyde & Hemingway, #2) by Georgette Heyer

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Behold Here's Poison read 2017.

We have five now, so I'll close the thread & Jenny can set up the poll when she is ready. :)

And we have a result - Sprig Muslin Sprig Muslin by Georgette Heyer came out a clear winner with 11 votes to the runner-up (Black Moth)'s 8.

Awesome! There is so much to love about this book!

message 22: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 2187 comments Long time since I read this so looking forward to it!

message 23: by Old Scot (new)

Old Scot | 31 comments I haven't read Sprig Muslin for decades! My gran bought me that very edition when I was a teenager because she knew I liked GH!

Susan in Perthshire (susanageofaquarius) | 1448 comments I just received a notification of the result, but I don't remember seeing a notification about the poll itself?
I don't mind as I think Sprig Muslin will provoke some excellent discussions but I'm wondering why I get them some months and not others?

message 25: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Goodreads constantly dumps me off threads I’m following and participating in, Susan; I suspect that is what happened to you. About once a week I try to go theough my groups to check on threads with nee messages. It’s a pain for sure.

Thanks Abigall - I need to start doing that. I guess it’s reassuring that it’s Goodreads and not me!

I thought I'd sent a message to everyone in the group about the poll! And at least one person has said she got it - it looks as though not everyone did, though. Sorry!

Susan in NC (susanncreader) | 4143 comments I see it above, message 19, I remember getting it, if that helps.

Teresa | 2187 comments I couldn't read a comment on one of the threads yesterday because GR said I had blocked the person. I certainly had not!!

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) That's a new one on me, Teresa! Goodreads certainly does like to throw curveballs.

From what Abigail said in her post, it’s a Goodreads error. 😊
