a little unpopular opinion here but I dont like dual POV lols idk why I just seem to dislike a book more if it has dual POVS but i really love slow burn in the books and i love really reallyy long books idk why lol
I love long books but I always get scared of getting bored that’s why I’ve put off reading twisted lies lol, And yeah I use to hate dual pov but now I love hearing the guy being all in love
i’d have to say i really don’t like long chapters, like if they are too long it makes me not want to finish the book lol that might just be me tho
Predictable plots are SUPER ANNOYING it robs you of all the fun from reading!!Also VERY IMPORTANT: inaccurate historical/cultural context!! I read mostly historical fiction and this is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!! (An example would be Ozeki’s The Book of Form and Emptiness. Anyone from San Francisco can relate I suppose)
When the main character is “smart” but it’s actually just everyone around them is oblivious. There’s no creativity or cleverness despite the fact the author keeps telling us how intelligent the main character is. Moreover, I strongly dislike it when a “strong female lead” is just a short tempered girl who swings around sword. I like it when girls can preform athletic feats, but if that’s all that makes them “strong” then it feels cheap and there’s no nuance to the character. There’s more than one way to be strong, and honestly, all I’m asking for is that the female character have autonomy and critical thinking skills. I might also be in the minority for this, but I’m not a fan of domineering men who call the main character pet names for real. For instance, “baby,” or “sweetheart.” It just rips me out of the story because I feel so embarrassed lmao. If the pet names are done in a joking manner, however, than I find it bearable. Another thing about male leads that I find questionable is the possessiveness that have. My good Sir, this is a whole human who will make their own choices. I advise you to not control their interactions with other people.
Generally speaking, I don’t like it when relationships between characters are reduced to tropes and there’s no further development that makes the relationship unique to their world. And speaking of world, lukewarm world-building makes me sad. Same goes for cultures — please do research before incorporating a culture that you have not grown up with.
Oh damn that got long. Hehe.

In my opinion dual pov can be a hit or miss.
Something I dislike and find hard to believe is instant attraction/obsession. Especially when the characters are bland or the relationship isn't developed. I hate the "I don't why I feel this attracted to them?" Me either! Why? What is it asides from looks that is drawing you in.
So this is like not what happens in the story but the physical book…. I hate when the spine is broken, pages are dog eared, and when it’s just not good condition. As far as what happens in the story probably predictable plots or mcs I don’t like or when they do something stupid and ruin something!!
OMG same hate when the spine is broken I will literally read my book so carefully just so i don’t break the spine!!!
Can def relate with the broken spine and dog-eared pages!! I love shopping at secondhand bookstores for the price and the books I like that are hard to find. But if the condition isn’t beyond good I’d be screwed 😵😵Maybe I’m just too much of a perfectionist, but another annoying thing is when people haven’t reached the fluency level of a language parallel to the book’s difficulty and look up too many words. I don’t have problem with annotations per se, but if you look up the words, please don’t write them down on the book. And if you do write them down, please don’t resell the annotated book to a bookstore. 😵 It really interferes with the reading experience: One time I found both volumes of Beauvoir’s the second sex, with the first chapter of volume I filled with the previous owner’s looked-up English translation. That was the only reason I didn’t buy them. But like I said I have no issue with annotations. Sometimes I even read what people have to say about a particular passage if there’s any. That’s the bonus for buying used books besides the price 🥳
When the author drags out the ending. Especially in romance books because quite literally nothing is happening plot wise
I never knew that’s my pet peeve but oh my what Allie here mentioned, the instant attraction?? It’s so weird and takes away all the excitement and makes it kinda boring. Like I get it someone is attracted to another person and wants to maybe go on a date with them, just after looking at that person, but being in love??? Obsessed???

Like I get it someone is at..."Right because it happens in real life, you'll be at a bar or any where public and you'll see an attractive man but don't instantly feel a pool of liquid heart burning in the pit of your stomach. haha. You'll probably get a little blushed if your eyes meet at most and then continue with your day. But the instant need to devour that man is unreal especially when the girls in these sort of books tend to be less experienced or "innocent". Doesn't happen.
For men I understand the "attraction" sort of. But then we get hit with I wanted to protect her, to make her mine. Sir you don't know her....why?
Some books can pull this off but it is very rare.
