How do we handle titles in names?

How do we handle titles/ranks in names? All of McChrystal's books on Amazon seem to be "General Stanley McChrystal", but while General (4 star) is the terminal rank/his terminal rank (retired) and unlikely to ever change, is that the correct author name to use?
