I have always been a huge John Irving fan but this book gave me trouble. The first time I tried to read it, I got stalled eArly on by some disturbing passages about the sexual molestation of a child. I put it down and only went back to it for this challenge. The book definitely improved once I passed those scenes but I can't say I loved it. I think because it felt like a pastiche of every other book by John Irving. I just think it pales in comparison to books like A Prayer for Owen Meany, Hotel New Hampshire, World according to Garp and Son of the Circus.
