Selena Pigoni (sailorstar165) | 36 comments This one's a bit confusing.

This book here is volume 4. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

It was listed as volume 5 originally, but the ISBN belongs to volume 4, so I fixed the title and cover to match volume 4. I know it's volume 4 because I have the book sitting right in front of me and triple-checked the ISBN before making the changes.

The problem I'm posting about is that I can't separate it from volume 5 and combine it to volume 4! It says that I "can't separate the most popular edition of a work."

Can anyone help?

lethe | 16368 comments It means you have to separate all the other editions (you can do that with the separate tool) and then you can combine this edition with vol. 4. (ETA Changing covers is against policy though, so it might be reverted.)

Selena Pigoni (sailorstar165) | 36 comments But the cover was for the entirely wrong book... If someone uploaded the cover for Twilight to a Harry Potter book, wouldn't you want to change the cover?

I'll separate the stuff and move things around then. Thanks!

lethe | 16368 comments Oh I would want to, but when it's only the ISBN that belongs to another book, GR policy is to create an ACE.

I hate to sound totally ignorant, but what's an "ACE"?

Maybe Rivka should weigh in here, because I don't believe that's true. If I find a book cover for ABC Railway when the book is True Grit, I will not be making an ACE. I'll just delete the ABC Railway cover and upload the correct one if I can find it. Otherwise, making the cover the GR generic one is preferable.

Elizabeth (Alaska) ACE = Alternate Cover Edition.

Selena Pigoni (sailorstar165) | 36 comments Thanks for your help, lethe, Elizabeth.

The edition issue has been fixed and I'll keep checking back for the ultimate decision on the book cover question.

lethe | 16368 comments #6 Ah yes, but as I understood it, only the ISBN belonged to vol. 4 in this case. Maybe I misunderstood!

ETA And Selena, sorry for speaking in code! :-)

Well, unless there is evidence that the ISBN was reused for a completely different book, which does happen sometimes. I suggest caution, and an ACE when you are not sure.

Thanks, Rivka. Yes, I was making my sentence too black and white. I do equivocate (make an ACE) when I think the ISBN has been reused.
