shadow and bone book vs series

i just read shadow and bone, and im currently watching the netflix series. is it just me or the series is a lot different from the book? also why did the six of crows storyline get along with it?

I did not read Shadow and Bone, but read Six of Crows and it is different from the books as well, I think it was done that way so they could interact with each other idk

I don’t know but is upsetting, the six of crows were supposed to get a spin off show but it got cancelled :(

I believe the author described the series as "High-budget fanfiction", so that's the main part, adding the crows in also throws off quote a bit, and the Six of Crows storyline is, in my opinion, not just different but pretty screwed up.
For Shadow and Bone, I feel like the first book was pretty close to season 1, but once season 2 came along I guess they wanted to finish adapting the books before they got cancelled, and Netflix loves cancelling things. And they also wanted to leave space to have a third season, so a lot was blended together, changed, and added in to make that possible.
